I saw the thread on airline tix earlier and got to thinking about taking a trip. We usually do the beach thing each year an will likely still do that at some point. I found round trip tix from NO to Chicago for 481 for me, the wife , and three kids. I was thinking about going to a White Sox game and maybe the NASCAR race. The Navy Pier looks cool too. What else is there to do with kids that we will all enjoy? Likely going in June.

Hancock Tower and Field Museum. Gino's East is fun for deep dish, though I think the Chicago purists like Giordano's. Portillo's Italian beef is too. I never remember the nice places I eat there.

There's been a few recent threads, but I recently went to the Hancock building up to a bar up top with great views of the city, the Lincoln park zoo (completely free), navy pier, and millennium park. Oh and deep dish of course

Agree on Portillo's Italian Beef.....a must get.....Navy Pier is fun.....different museums....Magnificent Mile....Grant Park.......There's a lot of fun to be had in Chicago. In June there is the Taste of Chicago event that lasts for a weekend (i think)....Different restaurants from around the city set up shop around Grant Park and you buy tickets to use to sample different food items.

The architectural tour by boat is really cool but might not keep the kids attention.

Lake Michigan is cool. They have a small beach there and the lake/river boat rides will be fun for all. The 4 story Nike store is fun to check out. Really cool museums if they into that. Last time I was there, the Field museum had a great dinosaur exhibit. And go to a Cubs game instead of white sox.

No preference on Cubs or the Sox. The Cubs are on the road the weekend we plan on going is the only reason . The kids won't care either. Is the tour of Wrigley field worth it?

It's not so much of your favorite team, it's the experience. Wrigley Field is in a neighborhood and has a vibe like no other I've experienced in MLB. Reminds me of a Tiger Stadium gameday, but for baseball. People walking the neighborhood eating and drinking all day. And the 7th inning stretch is an experience there.

There is a reason they call it "the friendly confines of Wrigley Field."

Never did the tour, so can't speak on that.

See what city festivals they're having when you're in town--Blues Fest, Jazz Fest, or the ultimate food orgy, Taste of Chicago. Look on their CVB website or something.

I'm 29 and childless, but I live in Chicago, so take this fwiw...

Architecture River Cruise (CAF is the best, check out LINK / for their tour days/times)

Buckingham Fountain/the Bean/ Millennium Park (all within a short walk of each other)

Shedd Aquarium

Adler Planitarium

Field Museum

Magnificent Mile (mostly for the wife, idk if your daughter is into American Girl Dolls yet but they have a huge store here)

Science and Industry Museum

Wrigley Field (cellular field if the cubbies are away)

Fireworks @ Navy Pier every Wednesday and Saturday nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day

Chicago is known for its awesome street festivals in the summer months. Very family friendly and its a great chance to check out some not as touristy neighborhoods.

Some casual dining options for yall-
Big Star
Eataly
Frontera Grill
Giordanos
Hash House A Go Go
Hopleaf
Little Goat
Piece Pizza
Purple Pig
Santa Monica Summer House

And you might laugh at this, but with kids that age, they will probably enjoy. The have a really cool McDonald's. Busiest on USA with a rock n roll exhibit. I still remember it from my 1st trip there when I was 9.

Rock n Roll Mcd's

Go in the Summer time. July/August are better. Early June can still be a little cool at times. Lots to do downtown. The Shedd Aquarium is pretty neat. Stay near Michigan avenue. Love Chicago in the Summer.

the interesting thing is you can find ethnic neighborhoods with food from the old country .

German.
Lithuanian
Polish
Danish.

Cubs game. Why are you talking White Sox?

Lake Michigan water will still be ice cold.

There is some of the world's great art in a museum downtown.
