I thought it was good and very entertaining but IMO didn't like it as much as imitation game and Birdman

I guess it was all the hype and people on here saying it was the greatest movie in a long time, etc. It was good no doibt, but I didn't leave it thinking it was best picture caliber.

It was a good original screenplay. Imitation game was much better

Agree it's not best picture. But it is definitely the one I had the most fun at. Really great film.

I thought it was great. I go to movies to be entertained and I was the whole movie. Best movie I have seen this year. I haven't seen imitation game yet

i thought Simmons did a great job and deserves an award, however I thought his character was too over the top in some scenes.

I get it, you're a dick and an a-hole, sometimes he would just go off for 10-15 seconds with put down after put down, etc. I didn't feel like it flowed. he just beat it into the ground.

For me, the movie's main problem is that it's kind of soulless--much like the kind of jazz played in it. Technically dazzling but without real depth.

Better than The Imitation game but I'm with you about Birdman. I thought Whiplash was a cool little movie with a fantastic performance from JK Simmons, but Birdman was my favorite movie of the year. I personally had no care for The Imitation game. Just my opinion.

I attempted to watch it since Ive heard so much hype and...

I had to turn it off 1 1/2 hour in bc it never got anywhere. I love movies but I was bored out of my mind. Had to find spoilers online.

Note- I come from a musical background and STILL didn't enjoy it

Wow.

I thought it was pretty awesome. I agree that it isn't too deep of a movie, but even just taken on the surface, I thought it was really good. I thought it was cool for a few reasons. First and foremost, the subject matter hasn't been done a whole lot (and I haven't seen movies attempt it really). Secondly, though it was overdone a bit at times (like Simmons's character just railing on kids for no real reason) I thought it was still well done...sometimes people are just assholes, and he was one. And he was turning other people around him into assholes. Finally, I liked that going into the final concert, I honestly had no idea what to expect of what was gonna happen. That doesn't usually happen.

All in all, I dug it a lot. I'd definitely recommend it to people, especially if they're looking for something different than your normal movie fare.

Turning off a movie with 15 minutes to go just doesn't make any sense, especially considering it was a very intense ending. But I guess if you were "bored out of your mind" the first hour and a half, then it's pointless. I guess I have a different viewing perspective. Even if I don't especially enjoy a film and will not watch it again, I can appreciate a well-made film enough to finish the last 15 minutes. Either way, I thought Whiplash was phenomenal so I'm not sure how one could have been so bored.

I hate being that guy, but if you were bored with Whiplash, then you're just trying to be contrarian. There's no way you could have possibly been bored

Yeah, the buildup to the climax performance was solid. And once they hit the theater, it was pretty awesome. Like I said above, I honestly had no idea how the movie was gonna end going into that final performance. That's pretty rare that a movie can do that for me.

I thought it was a great movie and most importantly was a fun movie to discuss afterwards. I have not seen the Imitation Game or Foxcatcher yet. But Boyhood, Birdman and Whiplash are all pretty great. 2014 was a good year for movies.

I've seen all of those except Foxcatcher. Whiplash comes in at #1 with Birdman at second.

The intensity this movie carries throughout is surreal. I haven't had a movie make me feel this way in a while. The ending was particularly spectacular.

Seriously can't say enough about Whiplash.

There's no fluff or or pretentious bullshite in Whiplash. That's more than I can say for Foxcatcher or Birdman.

Whiplash, Birdman and Imitation Game were three completely different types of movies and movie experiences. All were very good, imo. And enjoyable.

Haha yeah, Birdman did have a slight air of pretension.
