Bonus coming in March. I want to take part of it to buy me a new gun. Have several other projects I will be using my bonus for too. This is not a need gun. Just a want. I've somewhat narrowed the list down.

1. Springfield m1a socom
2. Springfield m1a scout
3. Benelli m4
4. Cmp m1 garand
5. Springfield range officer (KR is excluded from voting).

Thoughts on this list. I have much more to the list but trying to narrow down which one to get next.

Appreciate any help.

Would you put some kind of optic on it or just iron sights?

This is one I'm leaning heavy to. I only own one shotgun, a browning bps. Currently it sits at my FIL house loaded with buckshot because they don't own any firearms.

I don't bird hunt and shoot rabbit
and squirrel with a .22lr

However, I've been itching to get a m1a and a 1911. Hence my dilemma

Springfield m1a scout

A little longer barrel than the SOCOM, and it can double as a hunting rifle a little better. I think you can buy a receiver based scope mounting system and take the EER mount off of the front and put a regular top stock piece on it.

I've got a m1a scout that I love but it is loud. I mean it is LOUD. I mean it is f--king LOUD!!!!! Like borderline unshootable loud. The flash suppressor funnels the sound to the sides. First order of business is getting a suppressor. Gotta think a socom would be worse with the shorter barrel. The Scout is plenty short, no need to go for the socom other than looks. Accuracy is great and it's easy to shoot. If I could do over, though, think I'd get the standard size m1a.

Would you choose the standard or loaded models?

Probably standard. Been a while since I researched them. Look at the weights. I was always concerned about the gun being to heavy. Think some of the loaded or match versions got heavy, especially the wood versions. I got the synthetic scout.

I'd go with the M1A scout or a Garand from CMP

You might be a few years too late on the CMP Garands. They have them but the best ones in that price range you are looking at are long gone. They are putting them together from the available parts inventory and selling them as fast as they are making them. Really is a crap shoot on what you'll get or find whether you go to the South Sales Office or mail order. I should have picked up one or two more when I got mine.

You came to the OB, so I'll say it. 1911 or Glock.

FNAR.
You're welcome.

I'm not a Springfield guy......I don't like them. Heavy and a poor feel in my hands.
I went through this same journey any 3 years ago.
I ended up buying an fnar and I freaking love this gun.

.308
Mine is very accurate. Guaranteed 1 MOA or better. Springfield doesn't offer that.

I have my longest kill shot on a deer with my fnar at 385.

Look it up before you buy anything else. It's my go to if SHTF.

It's a personal preference, so no offense if you don't like it.

Good luck and congrats on the bonus.

But, I would need to know what your pressing gap in battery coverage before making a definitive. I'm looking at going with M4s for myself and Mrs. Midnight for our primary short-intermediate range response weapon. We tend to use sidearms for that role now and I'm stuck on buying the same pistol - over and over - in different calibers, but hopefully I'm at the end of that.
