Is protocol still only asking for numbers in person? I know the chick, but we know each other through mutual friends and are friends on social media.

No doubt she'll give me the number, just don't want to do something that's a turn off.

I'm sure I'll catch some shite but I haven't had to do this since before Facebook or Myspace.

Be sure to follow all of the sound advice on here and you will be just fine...

Or you could just ask her.

I think in this day and age, it's acceptable to ask for her number through a text.

Option 1 - "Hey, can I have your number?"

Option 2 - "I bet I can guess your number, XXX-XXXX. Am I right?"

"No? What is it then?"

Eh, I was just hoping to set up something for when I was back in town.

I have no problem with asking for a number.

Asking for her number and getting them to put it in your phone is the best way I remember/learn the girl's name

And how are you getting her number to send the text in the first place?

Just ask.

Or better yet, you already have a means of which to communicate with her, so just ask her if she wants to go out somewhere.

How old are you? Is this a serious post?

ETA: This is how you do it:

you: "hey, did you get my text?"

her: "no"

you: "really? isn't your number ***-***-****?"

her: "no, it's ***-***-****"

you: "ah okay. sorry about that"

Or just ask her like a person.
