I need to have a piano moved from Laffy to New Orleans. Anyone ever hired someone to do this, or did it your self.

How much of a pain in the arse is this going to be?

Hire it out. A friend of mine in HS helped someone move one. It fell on him and broke his arm. Could have been much worse. But still pay someone else for that headache.

Paid someone to move our grand. Worth every penny. It took four guys with a special rolling dolly and a lift gate truck.

I've had to move a wall piano like this; LINK from Baton Rouge to Beaumont, TX. It was a paint to move to and from the Uhaul. just make sure it's strapped down well, and you shouldn't have a problem. And either way, you should probably have it re-tuned after it has been moved.

No idea but they do a great job. I'm sure my mom still has the receipt from 10 years ago but I'm not calling her to ask.

This past summer, cost was $500 to move a medium grand from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Was worth it. Piano movers handled it like it was a small desk. No problem.

Call a piano store in your area for a piano mover. That's what I did.

Wasn't that a TV show from the 60's? Like with Robbie and Uncle Charley?

Depends on type of piano and how many stairs

If its an upright, 2 strong guys can do it unless a staircase is involved
If its a baby grand, 2 smart strong guys with the right equipment can do it
If its a concert grand, 4 smart guys with the right equipment and a good insurance company can do it.
Our biggest problem was ALWAYS getting it on the truck if we didn't have a liftgate and securing it once on the truck.

In 1996 I saw a concert grand drop from 3 stories up. It was awesome. There were piano keys everywhere.

It cost me $400 to donate a piano to charity. It was on the 2nd floor of my house. I had to hire a professional piano moving company to move it....took 3 guys about 20 minutes to get it down the stairs.

I own 2 uprights. One is a heavy M'Fer that is a player (cast iron pump and extra stuff besides the normal heavy piano crap) and the other isn't all that bad. We've moved them 3 or 4 times without many problems.

If you do decide to move it yourself and put it in the back of a truck, please tie it down or use a large ratchet strap so when you turn on Common St., in Lake Charles it doesn't roll over the side of the truck bed and slide upside down and hit a car parked at the red light. The lady in the car will be mad and your grandmother-in-law, and mother-in-law, and wife who all learned to play the piano on that piano will be mad at you and will bring it up at family events and get togethers as well as later piano recitals your children participate in. My father-in-law learned this lesson the hard way before I was in the picture.
