Does the Krewe leader still pee in the gumbo pot? That was the tradition back in the early 80s.

First off, there are no "Krewes" in the Mamou Mardi Gras.

But the Capitaine of the ride told me to piss in your bowl because, well, he just didn't like you, city boy.

Eunice Mardi Gras starts the Friday before with street dances. Sunday's children's mardi grad parade is just as awesome as the courier it self without all the alcohol. Monday night will be packed downtown, better than the crowds used to be in mamou. Tuesday will be great whether your on the run or just going downtown.

I been in Eunice for Mardi Gras every year. I have always lived 3 blocks from all the festivities and did the actual run from 16-24 years old. Now I just enjoy it from the outside with my family. Great times here.

True. The Mamou Mardi Gras is slowly dying. I remember on Tuesday things didn't shut down until late at night, the cops had to really get feisty to get people off the street.

Now, by 5:00 the festivities are usually over.

Most of it is because the Mamou Mardi Gras has become much less of a family event, more of a great big drunkfest. The other thing hurting it is that women can't participate in the run.

Eunice has been taking advantage of this for over a decade.

Having lived in the Mamou area my entire life I can def see how an outsider would feel un welcomed by a few bad apples

VT23, your correct if referring to Monday night in mamou. If anyone is interested it's why I suggested Fred's on Sat morning ehich is an older more friendly crowd. Less youngsters full off piss, vinegar, and BL! Haha. Oh and Lanse Meg here checking in hahaha

Isnt the monday night a shell of its former self due to the town bring broke?

I go to the cancer benefit that night and the street seems dead.

That's odd, my experience is that more than a few out-of-towners act like asses when they get here.

Like this one chump who kept hitting on my GF at the bar. Just wouldn't take the hint.

It's a two-way street.

From reading other TD posters, why is it that outsiders have to "walk on eggshells" around the Mamou locals? Do they not take kindly to outsiders?
Actually all the locals celebrate more the Saturday before. They call it "Ugly Day." Started with a pig named "Ugly" that was butchered years ago. Many locals don't even know that. It's like woodstock, seriously.

On the Monday night street dance there it's packed for a block and a half but the locals pretty much stay in.

Last year, I think it was, was really weak because of weather forecast that never really got as bad as predicted.

definitely packed.

I went out with some locals for alittle bit on Monday night (so they could show me the shitshow).

Then we left to go play poker at a buddies camp.

Tuesday we went to Eunice and it was ok.

But I'm a generational rider in Endymion, so I rather that for Mardi Gras.
