I'd highly recommend Munich, or just Bavaria in general.
This...and
Interlaken area (Mürren/Wengen/etc)
Amsterdam
Cinque Terre
Also, how old are you, going with a group etc? All those factor into accomodations, cities to visit & other things.
Look forward to planning your trip...make it fun, don't look at it as a bad thing.

Yup.
I went back to Paris with a school group, and bailed out to go back to Munich and then to Interlaken for a few days before meeting everyone back in Paris. I had already done Paris for 3 days, I didn't need another week.
The only thing that bummed me out was I missed the trip to Normandy.

Surprised no one has mentioned Salzburg or Innsbruck
Neuschwanstein is a must...

Get a good travel agent unless you are a travel pro. Trying to plan a 2 week Europe trip on our own was incredibly overwhelming.
We did a 10 split between Rome, Florence, and the Tuscan countryside and it wasn't too bad to plan. We met with a travel agent, but ultimately decided to book it ourselves.
OP, definitely check out the Trastevere neighborhood in the south of Rome. It has a "real" feel to it, rather than the touristy feel that most of Rome has.

Wife and I have a trip planned in May. We are flying into Munich. Then driving to Salzburg for several days and will visit Hallstatt from there. Then we are driving back to Munich for a few days. The drive will take us from Salzburg --> Innsbruck --> Fussen to see Neuschwanstein --> Munich. We stay in Munich for 2 more days before flying to Prague for a week.
Needless to say, I am getting super excited. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Interlaken, Switzerland
Absolutely loved it there. We stayed at the Victoria Jungfrau which is a stunning hotel in a stunning location.

Both are great cities within striking distance of Bavaria...train we took to Salzburg from Munich was about 2 hours.
That's part of the reason I like that area so much...endless options nearby.

Switzerland would just be too god damn expensive right now

Did Salzburg-Hallstatt 2 years ago. Hallstatt is a utopian paradise...can thank Rick Steves for all the daily tour groups.
Are you staying the night or day-tripping there? If staying, 1 night is plenty.
Friends have told us that Fussen is great as well. And tying Prague in on that trip? Damn strong

Thank you sir. We are day tripping from Salzburg. I have heard that a few hours is plenty of time in Hallstatt.
The best part...other than meals, rental car gas, souvenirs, and just discretionary spending the trip is free. Paid all with points. Airfare, hotels, rental car, airbnb in Prague...all with points.

Prague, Budapest and Paris are my top three major European cities. I wasn't crazy about London, but the adventurous side of me wanted to be in places where I don't speak the language.
San Sebastian, on the north coast of Spain is my favorite place period. I really like smaller out of the way places that take you off the tourist road. Another good one was a little ski town called Flumserberg Tannenheim, Switzerland, if you are into skiing with great views of the Alps.

The Sistine Chapel is worth the entire trip by itself. It's breathtaking.
I had fun just walking around looking at things in Rome. It's an awesome place. The traffic is like something out of a science fiction novel, though.
