I get what they're doing there, so it's sort of hard to "disagree".

The only thing I might quibble with or scratch my head over is the inclusion Cochon Butcher's muffuletta over Central Grocery's. If the question is over which is the more "iconic" between those two, it's not really disputable it seems to me.

maybe also find room for Clancy's sweetbreads

Turtle Soup at Commanders
Crawfish at Frankie & Johnny's (like it matters where)
Oyster Loaf at Casamentos
Pork & pate at Pho Tau Bay (never been but love a bahn mi)

These are the only ones listed I think are "worthy". The rest are easily replacable/forgettable. IMO

Just looking at the picture of the Lucky Dog makes me sick.

ETA: I'm guessing this just repost this exact article every January. Provided by the NOLA Chamber of Commerce!

I get why they included this, but to me there are only two options. You either just put "crawfish" or leave it off.

I think R&O's muffalatta is better than both those places.

I wouldn't include Pascal's Manale for BBQ shrimp. I'd put Mr. B's there. PM's haven't been good for a while. The oysters rock there, however, are among the best.

I wouldn't send a tourist to Port of Call for a burger. The list looks like dishes a visitor should try.

I think Casamento's oyster loaf is too bready. Just get the oyster plate for fried oysters. They're done so well, there. I'd recommend a fried soft shell crab there, too, among other things.

After my meal at Tujaque's, I would send anyone there for anything other than a drink at the bar. I didn't have the brisket, but when I'm in Nola, I'm not looking for brisket. For locals who can eat anywhere all the time, that's a different story.

I would include Bon Ton for crawfish bisque and probably etouffee, though those are not "New Orleans" dishes. Neither is jambalaya.

I'm not going through all of them, but the list is a place to start for some folks, though perhaps not necessarily at all the places listed.

Why not? It's a fun experience you aren't getting in any other city. The list says iconic, and that burger is most certainly fitting of that term.

Of course it isn't the best burger in town, but that isn't what iconic means.

Its a damn good burger but I agree with your point. This is the reason I would definitely take off the brisket and put on a shrimp poboy from parkway or even Roman Candy salt water taffy. That is most certainnly iconic.

That brisket is pretty old school "iconic" though. It's such a throw-back that a lot of people don't even realize it.

Because I can get a good burger in most places and I don't think the experience is so great that I'd select it over getting a good poboy somewhere, for example. Living there, I went to PoC quite often. Wonderful "after a long night" place to go.

I don't think you can argue the merit of anything on this.
