Jumping jacks or chopping wood are pretty ridiculous IMO.

Paying taxes is patriotic.... I love writing that check and fully support the EITC! .......

Really, if taxes weren't taken out of people's payroll check and they actually had to pay the full amount... there would be politician's heads on spikes in Washington.

Or being told to file the return as is and then have to go back and file an amended return.

I know someone (not a client) that does this every year. They file in January, then every mid-September they get a small K-1 from a 1 percent interest in a family business, and they just file an amended return and if they owe anything, just pay that with interest.

It is a system that punishes the honest and rewards cheating.

I pay 500-600 a year to have an accountant do my taxes. It is silly.

Yep. I am a CPA. I have told my clients if taxes were not taken out, and a bill was simply sent to each person at the end of the year, there would be a revolution(I am talking a legit uprising) and there would be no more income taxes

The IRS should outsource the collection of taxes to Google or Apple. Whatever these people make is always easy and it works.

Waiting on companies to send out information, getting info in Feb from banks for IRA, 1098 forms, 1099-B, INT, DIV, and now HSA forms, W-2 for employers, 1099-MISC, and looking for my charitable donations, etc. Then hoping it's right, and then figuring out if I paid medical expenses out of pocket or with HSA, dependent care credits, calculating medical mileage, donations, etc.

Sounds like you need to get better organized.

Its bad. This faceless zombie agent you MUST pay and file paperwork too.... and if you mess up, you pay or go to jail, but if they mess up its no problem. The funny thing, they take your money and don't tell you where they spend it: Example: Federal Tax <---okay what the hell did that go towards? The military or some free-loading crack addict on disability?

No one goes to jail for messing up... they go to jail for non-filing or outright fraud.
