Going on year 2
1 Roku3 (subscription to Sling)
2 Chromecast
HD Ant catch ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, METV, and CW
Subscriptions to Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Im saving roughly 100/month Had Uverse TV. Still use Uverse for Internet. Bumped Bandwidth to top and cut cable.

I get that there are savings to be had, and I am cutting in 12 days, but how are people getting $100 in savings ?
I pay $100 a month for Cable and internet right now, Cutting out the tv part is only saving like $30 Which adding a Sling tv for $25 negates. (note I already pay for Prime and Netflix so im not adding or deducting for those)

ATT Uverse cable and Internet after taxes and fees was about 200. I carried HD, Sports Package, and premium channels. My internet bill is about 80 by itself. Add sling tv Im at about 100. I always had Netflix and Prime. I'm about to shop wireless because ATT is robbing me there too. My contract is up in a month.

Almost every house I lived in in Nola had stolen cable rigged up from the previous tenant. It was great for football season.
Now I use my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, since I'm grandfathered in on Verizon's unlimited data plan. I've got a few passwords to use roku cable channels. During football season with watch espn, I was using between 180-200 gigabytes a month.

Canceled my DirecTv today. Will be signing up for SlingTV (and getting a new Fire TV to go with my Roku). Also picked up a new router because my current one sucks and an HDTV antenna. Feels good to finally cut the cord

Chord Cut Check in:

Splitting Netflix with my sister's bf.
Cox Internet.
Went from $149 (Cox wanted to increase to $182)
to
Internet: $60/mo
Sling: $25/mo
Netflix: $4.16/mo
Total = $89/mo.
Interested to see how the internet does. Lowest internet package that Cox offers, but so far so good on streaming and picture quality.
Only 1 TV in the house for me and the fiance.
ETA: Just looked at Data usage for internet. Will more than likely need to increase to the next level or next two levels.

go to the settings button and put it on "highest quality." it'll be running somewhere around 4mpbs--it says how much it's using at the bottom of the options.
i'd like to get a tech guy's opinion on how much is actually necessary. i'm thinking about dropping it down to the 5mbps tier and seeing how kodi and sling run.

I cancelled cox cable and still have internet. I screwed the cable directly into the back of my tv and voila, I still have cable.
My question. Is there a way I can enhance the standard definition channels I am getting? TIA

Not without a cable subscription. A handful of channels (namely, those you would get in hd with an antenna) should be in hd. The rest are SD with no way of receiving OTA HD without, in most cases, a cable subscription and cablecard-decrypting device.

Just cut the cord yesterday. I'm enjoying the fire TV and Netflix. Using the parents directv account for online. Now all I need is a recommendation for a HD antenna. I'm trying to get both NO and BR channels being I'm smack dab in middle or about 50 miles each way.

I like the clear stream 4v with the radio shack 30db booster raised about 30 ft in the air. Use tvfool.com for your coordinates.

By sharing or using someones login to Netflix, Watch ESPN, Amazon etc. I can't mathematically make it work. A bandwidth connection to run the house will be a minimum of 50 bucks for 50 mg down. Add 20 bucks to sling tv, 8 bucks for netflix, 8 bucks for Amazon (99/12) unless you were an early subscriber and buy an HD antennae. Just TV with Cox 35 for what I have. Can't make it work without nefarious products or infringing on terms of use. I'm not condemning anyone that does but that seems to be the situation.

Comcast - $60 (still need internet even with satellite)
Amazon prime - $8 (i had this anyway because i buy a lot)
Netflix - $8 (i had this anyway)
I dropped Directv and added Sling TV just for ESPN basically. My comcast internet includes HBOgo access. So essentially i'm saving $60-110/month.
Your math isn't working because you are apparently looking at cable and internet as mutually exclusive. Do you not have internet with your current cable subscription? And no you don't need 50mb internet. 25 is plenty, and you could probably get by with less than that
