Places where headphones are a must to get things done..

Work: Drowns out the loud talkers around your office.
Gym: Helps avoid getting disturbed by those wanna be lifters around you.
Public Restroom: Covers up the noises from the guy 2 stalls down blowing out an O-ring.
Where else? Home to drown out a nagging SO?

I would wear a pair not plugged into anything on the Metro up north to fend off the bums and the chatty assholes on my commute

I like to wear them in places were I know a lot of people sometimes, with no music even playing, just to avoid small talk.

I usually don't wear earphones to the gym because I'm moving around too much and they end up falling out/getting in the way. But my bigger question is the people who come to the gym wearing the ear cans. How in fck do you get a really good workout in with those things on? I guess it's fine if you are doing 8 reps of 225 on the flat bench and then sitting there adjusting your music for 5 minutes. I dunno. I don't get it.

If I'm going grocery shopping alone I wear them. Obviously I take them off when getting to the cash register.
