This is still one of my favorite sniper shots in history right below Hathcock killing an enemy sniper by shooting him through his own scope.

During the first years of the Iraq War, Royal Marines crack shot Corporal Matt Hughes was ordered to take out an Iraqi holding back a vital advance during a fierce gale, and the sharpshooter pulled off an incredible feat of marksmanship by perfectly gauging the wind speed to bend the bullet to its target.
The 7.62 calibre round from Matt's L96 sniper rifle curved 56 feet in the air before slamming into the Iraqi's chest, killing him instantly.
"It was hot and the wind was blowing strongly from left to right as we crept up to a vantage point about 860 meters from the target," said Hughes. Along with his partner Sam, the pair calculated the bullet's trajectory by studying the movement of heat haze and dust. "Sam told me I would have to fire exactly 17 meters to the left of the target for the bullet to bend in the wind and take him out. I made adjustments to my sight and with each click my aim was offset by one meter for every thousand meters. Thankfully, the Iraqi stayed in the crosshairs of my sight the whole time and didn't move."

Simo Hayha (sp?) still probably the best ever. Hathcock probably the best American.
Simo "Simuna" Häyhä nicknamed "White Death" used Iron sights so he was better concealed. I can't shoot 25 yards accurately with iron sights. I suck.

Hathcock helped design a lot of the modern training, tatics, and equipment. Hathcock by default.

I like the one where Hathcock and is partner decimated nearly an entire either platoon or company. Kept them pinned against a levee or something like that.

Dude can tell a hell of a story, that's for sure

you watched that sniper story on history channel last night?

It's like I was almost there. Quite the wordsmith

I would say Carlos but I have no doubt the two would have been good friends.

Donald Rumsfeld was the real hero.

Nope. Was at the movies watching American Sniper. I read Marine Sniper a long time ago and wondered about who was better after watching the movie.
I came down on the side of Hathcock. He had to go waaaay behind enemy lines. No support.

Don't think it matters, both are extreme badasses.

How American of you to say that

I'm going with a different tack... Opponents.
1. Russian chick. She killed hardened German infantry and snipers.
2. Simo. He had the worst equipment, probably the worst conditions. Easily the most prolific but went against conscripts.
3. Carlos. Best American and used a Winchester model 70 .270. Happens to be my deer rifle.
4. Kyle. Stud. But went against untrained idiots.
God bless the snipers. One man can hold off a company.

Kyle was just a chest thumping blow hard, and a proven liar, not disparaging the dead, but I don't think he has much respect from his former community

According to Kyle, Hathcock was
