It's pretty ironic that these making those types of comments get mad at black people stating they still face racism.

This teacher should likely be fired! Preying on a defenseless african-american child by taking his phone (while not asking for the nonwhite kid's phones, seems somewhat racist). I'm glad the teacher got what was coming.

I'm not an attorney or anything but seems like the teacher was unconstitutionally searching and seizing the child. I wonder if the ACLU chapter in that area has been contacted.

Paterson is such a cesspool. Throw the book at the kid. Lets see the all powerful teachers union back up its member. Joe Clark was right about Paterson schools.

That's the future of this country and we wonder why the US is a joke. That punk kid should have his arse beat so he learns he can't get away with that.

Wait, what?

There is nothing a kid NEEDS his phone for in high school, so there's no reason it shouldn't be confiscated if the kid is abusing the privilege of having it on him during class.

I'm not okay with teachers taking someones property. I'm not sure why you are. You realize that it's very common to confiscate phones for days or weeks and not just until the end of class, right?

If you're not supposed to have it in class and you're using it in class, I have zero issue with the teacher taking it until the end of class.

That's a complete separate issue, if so.

Teacher better start hitting the weights, learn jujitsu pressure point tactics, and the damn hard leg tPOSs will stay away no matter what he takes for them.

Teachers have always taken things from students if they felt it was a distraction or safety concern.

I gave a speech to several HS class kids on Career Day at a local HS. Holy shite. In 2 hours, every 10 seconds, I heard MFer this, MFer that, Ho, Bitch, and Nxgga... Unbelievable that the HS environment has eroded to this. The school was a 55/45 black/white mix. Included in the white were about 5% Hispanic. Sad really.

My Dad was a HS teacher on the South Side of Chicago and they were ordered to confiscate phones if they were used in class.

Dad actually got written up once for not doing it because the assistant principal saw one of his students on their phone as he walked by the classroom. Of course the kid didn't get in trouble.

But imagine the kids with 1 parent, a crackhead mother who doesn't give a shite about them. They live in the ghetto with no positive role models to steer them in the right direction.

And just who do you blame for this? Society, the welfare state, etc. etc.....It's always the "victim" card that is played and it's "racist" to point out the root of the problem!!!!It's just not PC to explain everyone is responsible for their own actions.

It's quite sad. I see it everyday. Calling it an "uphill battle" for faculty and administration is a pathetic understatement.

It's their own fault for allowing the teachers union to run the way it does.

As a teacher, I would have never let myself get into that situation. If he wanted to take the phone back he should have just let him and then written him up. The kid would have gotten several days of OSS. It's not worth getting into those kinds of confrontations.
