Never heard it called that until I started reading and posting here... always been "crappie" to me.

I'm bilingual, i can say sacalait or crappie, choupigue or grinnell. How do the records view fish caught in private ponds because IIRC the current weights for bluegill is little for the hand fed pigs in some of the ponds I've seen.

Per IGFA, the world record white is 5lb 3oz from Mississippi (July '57) and the world record gentle-giant-black is 5lb from Missouri (April '06).

Not sure I what I would do if I hooked on to one that big...I get pumped when I get on a few 8-12"er's.

Got invited to a trip in May with Livin' the Dream on TB...

May is so awesome there. Only place and time I know I can catch over 100 in a day.

Nothing to be ashamed of - its clearly a regional thing. I grew up crappie fishing in Al, GA, and SC and never heard this. Living up north now I DEFINITELY do not hear this word.

In my head it was "Sock - ah - lay"
