Whiplash

After the last thread on this movie I decided to watch it because everyone loved it. I could only get through 45 minutes of it. A movie about a psychotic J.J. Jameson teaching an awkward kid drum lessons isn't my cup of tea though.

Too bad. Missed what made it great.

I thought the cinematography and acting was great. But yeah, i didnt get it either from a storyline perspective.

This is exactly what I think about this movie. Pretty good movie, but it fell way short of being a great movie.

It looks pretty bad from the clips I saw.
But the award winners are all those quirky movies that are different

I like quirky and artsy, but I prefer them to be dark.

This is in a way, but not the way I lean. I enjoyed it as a first watch, but it didn't make a lasting impression with me and it wasn't entertaining enough to see again.

Thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
Birdman and Imitation game were two really really good movies

IMO of course

I was entertained by the pacing, direction and acting.

I had no problem with the story. Guy seeks real respect for his acting instead of doing just another action flick.

He has everything on the line and I think the rapid pace and camera work really help emote that desperation.

I though the scene where his daughter unloaded on him and then realized she had gone too far was fantastic.

I honestly think most people who dislike it probably hated the batshit crazy ending and nobody seems to have a clear understanding of what actually happened. I've read several options and people seem to be fighting over all of them.

I think the ending turned a lot of people against the film.

Overall, I liked it. Might be a long time before I watch it again but I was entertained.

Birdman is just dull pretentiousness.

You just aren't smart enough to get it.

I mean, that is what you always tell people, right, Rex? But, I guess if you don't like something it isn't because you aren't smart enough, it's because it is "pretentious".

You really are a tool.

I didn't love the movie, but I think everything in your OP is dumb.

I was going to go see because I had heard about it, but I watched the trailer about 5-6 times and still couldn't figure out what the hell it was about.
