Blackberry wants to legally force developers to develop for their platform

What kind of pinko commie bullshite is this?

Who does this frick think he is? How disconnected is he from how software and hardware work together? Can't wait until Portal is legally mandated to run on a potato. I can see this going well for him and Blackberry.

When BlackBerry was king of the hill back in the day, BBM was nowhere to be found on other platforms. They only changed there minds when they were at the bottom of the totem pole. It is amazing how things look different from top and then from the bottom.

Ironically he sits on the board of directors at Disney. Bob Iger (CEO) of Disney sits on the board directors at Apple.

Let me get this straight, Blackberry wants Congress to just start printing money so they can pay developers to support platforms that normal investors are currently not interested in funding? Or does Blackberry plan to subsidize these development themselves?
From where does Mr. Chen propose this additional money originate? Tax-payers? frick that noise! If Blackberry and Microsoft are pissed that developers for not supporting their platform, maybe they should make better dev-tools and API available. If Blackberry and Microsoft are butthurt tech companies aren't jumping on their band-wagon to support their platforms, instead of crying to Congress to disregard the Free-Market; making they should recognize the support gap for what it is: their products are perceived to be inferior and tech-companies don't have as much confidence in them as they do their competitors. This is not collusion between Apple and Google nor is it the result of uncompetitive business practices! It's survival of the fittest! Blackberry shat their own bed, the onus to save themselves is on them; not the app-developers!

To be fair, BB users developed work arounds for Netflix and then Netflix went out of its way to disable them. We are not talking pirating here. People still had to pay the monthly netflix subscription. It was intentionally keeping BB users from using netflix. I get it through the Amazon Appstore but you get the point. They've offered to pay to produce some apps and were told no as well.
However, Apple and Google took the risk, created their appstores, and BB sneered at them for doing so. Literally and publicly sneered. They paid a price for the arrogance.

The Palm App Store predates Apple and Google's. Apple, then Google, were the first to offer an AppStore through an application directly on the device.
ETA- Blackberry always seemed to have the enterprise market cornered over Palm, despite Palm being a vastly superior platform. I never understood that one.
