I tried it last night with a JDaniels sauce. Plenty of raisins, sauce was strong.
It was rouses king cake cut with Leidenheimer.

Who's tried this? Who's made a good one?
Cheers food and beverage boardsters.

I haven't, but I've seen some recipes that look to be promising on my Facebook page. I probably see several every day, now. I think one of them had sweetened condensed milk. Looked good and would probably result in a sugar coma.

Seems like a good idea if you make your own cake where you can control the sugar in the cake. Have the cake a less sweet than normal so that everything you add to it doesn't make it a big sugar bomb. Therefore it seems wayyyyyy too sweet.

Had one at Bistro Byronz last year. Phenomenal. Couldn't recommend more.

They're unbelievable. Best use of plain old king cake ever.

I'm going to second the Bistro Byronz one, although be prepared to pick sugar crystals out of your teeth. I sure hope they're doing those again this year.

I'm not a king cake lover. I might eat one or two slices during the season, but a king cake bread pudding it a whole 'nother story!

Talked to my sister and few other pregnant broads that've been eyeing this dessert.
The sugar is out of control in a lot of the recipes. I added one cup to the wet mix, instead of two, and halved the amount of butter in the JDaniels sauce.

It wasn't so sweet you couldn't eat it. I thought it came out great.
The recipes get a little out of control with the sugar and butter. There's a lot already in the cut up king cake.

Maybe ordering a king cake with no icing and light sugar would also work.

A friend of mine created this recipe a year or two ago. It's been floating around facebook so you may have seen it. It's pretty damn good.
