Question for the Baton Rouge people. Have a friend moving there and he's looking at Garden District, Steele Place and Goodwood. $500-750k.

Garden District is not "Bad". Close to the ghetto however.

Parts of it are bad, parts are really nice.

If he's paying that much, it's a nicer part.

It's on the border with some pretty undesirable spots for sure. Imo, right there in the goodwood area isn't bad though. More native Baton Rouge people might have a better grip on it though.

I don't think that's a bad area....But I am not afraid of people with different pigmentation than me.

A friend tried to give blood last yr & when he gave his address/this zip code, they refused to take it. In asking around later, he was told that that zip code is considered a high risk for HIV (drug related ).

Look up the address on google maps, street view that shite. take notice on what types of cars are around. Will give you a good idea of the area.

Stereotyping isn't racist.

No, that's mid city. Great, quaint part of town. Not far from Campus either. Closer to Webb Park the better. Southdowns is a great place to live too.

I grew up on the streets around Webb Park. Good area, close to campus, Overpass bars, downtown a straight shot down Govt.

The issue is that zipcode is split between some of the best and worst areas of the city. Claycut, Capitol Heights, Old Goodwood, parts of the Garden District, ect are all part of that neighborhood, but so is Mall City.

Don't be intimidated by that zip code. However, you can use it as a negotiating tactic since a lot of realtors consider the area "crime ridden" which is absolutely true in parts and patently false in other areas.

Steele Place has million dollar homes. Capital Heights and the surrounding area is a cool place to live. The close proximity of the Valley Park area does afford unsavory characters to cut through though.
