Myself, my son, brother, nephew, a buddy and his son are headed to Walnut Ridge, AR for a little duck hunting this weekend. Hoping we have better luck than we've had around home this year.

How are we looking on Friday night as far as ice?

Im hoping the high 57 holds long enough that the low 32 wont let it lock too thick.

Think you should be good. I'm about to head to the doctor with my wife to see if I can find out if I have another little hunter coming or if I need to buy razorwire. On the way back I'll take the scenic route and check. What guide you using? I may actually have your guides as former students.

We hunting with Gata Mallards. Will bring beer and a little CR Reserve. Thanks Smoked Hog for the info. Hopefully it'll thaw and the birds will be flying.

Good luck Pop! We going to make a stop at Macks on the way up. The boys want to have a look see.

I've made quite a few hunts around there and Corning, AR. Great hunting.

You gotta short stop them boys in Stuttgart.

You should be good, I'll try and hop in a field or two and let you know how thick the ice is looking.

I talked with the guy I know that has that lease outside of Walnut Ridge and he said it was awesome early but slowed down in the last couple of weeks. The thaw can only help.

I'll be headed up to the White River at the end of the month for a brown trout trip near Mountain Home/Gasville.

Just made a few calls. A couple places are picking up the last day or two. Expecting to start killing a lot more in the next couple days. Gata lodge is about 2 miles from my deer stand so I'll be able to check the fields in this afternoon.

Grandparents ran a trout guide service in Norfork for 40 years. You're timing big trout perfectly.

Thinking about doing this next year. How does it work coming from out of state...... you buy a temporary weekend pass hunting license along with stamps?

Yep. The best there is. A guy named Donald Cranor.

LINK

He has a few guys that work for him, but I go with the head dude. They say when you fish with him, you have to turn around in the boat and tell him you'll be back next year. He stays pretty full, but he can get you in another guys boat most times.

I had a friend, the guy with the duck lease up in Walnut Ridge, go with him last year. When I saw what they caught I booked with the same guy. I'm going on a Saturday with a friend and he is going on Sunday with his wife.
