Little one wants to go to sea world. Been to San Antonio before. Never to Austin.
Things to do in Austin?

Planning a trip over Mardi gras right now. Trip advisor has a good list of attractions / activities.

Barton springs is pretty cool if the weather is warm.

Done the whole river walk thing. Thinking some new things to see. 17y/o wants to be at seaworld though. We've been there before. Would not mind trying Franklins BBQ in Austin. Never been to Austin.

Go to Six Flags Fiesta between SA and Austin

If it's warm, go to Schlitterbahn.

What ages are the kids? I can think of a lot to do on Austin, but it would likely be boring or inaccessible for younger kids.

Kids = San Antonio. Go caving, water park stuff, riverwalk, ghost tours, Alamo etc. Austin is cool but not much for youngsters.

For Austin, definitely barton springs if it's swimming weather. Kayaking or canoeing on the lake in town if your family is into that.
If you really want bbq, stop at luling right off of I-10 on the way to san antonio. City market there has some of the best barbecue in texas, without the line that franklin has.

Arrive by 10 and bring chairs. And maybe an ice chest

In Austin you have tours of the State Capitol,LBJ Library, go to Bob Bullock Museum, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Research Gardens, Barton Springs Pool, Kayak in Town Lake and several good hiking trails in town. Other than that, not a whole lot for kids to do. You could drive out to Enchanted Rock and hike up it, hit the LBJ Ranch nearby.
