I think you misunderstood my post. Is it dumb to want to understand what motivates people? I didn't post to troll, I posted a question to learn what motivates people. Try and be less defensive in the future, it will get you farther.

What motivates me to watch is that American Idol has produced more super stars selling platinum albums and winning grammy's than any other singing competition. It's still the #1 in it's time slot for Wednesday and Thursday and has been so since its inception.

I actually like the fact that they pretty much only show the auditions where they get through. In the past there are so many people that get cut that you never got a chance to hear.

Yeah, I have no interest in seeing who didn't make it. Waste of time. I can't think of many they've let go who I thought should have made. They let plenty through who I think aren't ready and some who will never be ready. I don't want to see the silly people. They aren't funny or entertaining.

lot's of people say the "silly people" are the only reason they watch.

i'm not one of those. I'd rather just see the people at least have potential.

And i didn't like how keith told harry to stop saying "it's a singing competition". well, that's what it is.

Yeah, that's was strange from Keith. I agree that contestants need to do more than just be able to sing well. They need personality, presence etc..., but that can come later when they've had some help during the show, but the bottom line is that they must be able to sing.

KC was kinda lame.

big sexy? no !
blue haired accordion girl ? No !

girl with deaf parents..

"traveling man" bum.. No!

Skinny country singer ? hollywood will eat him alive.

the judges must be given a quota at the beginning of the day so they let a few through who don't stand a chance.

Yeah, last night wasn't too exciting.

I'm afraid blue haired accordian girl could be in the top 20. On the first show on which Ryan said we would meet the contestants and we saw their backs or parts of them in the dark, I think there was a blue haired girl or pink, but I believe blue. I remember thinking we could figure that out if they showed her, though there could be more than one with colored hair.

Oh, gosh, the girl with deaf parents just killed me! I wanted her to be good, but it worked out okay. The judges were kind in having to say "no" to her.

I also liked the skinny country boy. I hope he can hold his nerves in Hollywood.

I didn't think they'd put homeless guy through. His voice sounded more hoarse than anything else to me, probably from sleeping outside. I thought he was off key some, too.

I didn't think the girl with the cartoon voice was very good either. Her singing voice was better and her song was okay, but not stellar. Of course, they take a lot of people to Hollywood, but at the end of the show when they talked about looking for real talent, I had to wonder why some of these folks were getting through at all. Some will improve, however.

Keith won't be on tonight.

Apparently, they were doing the auditions when Nicole Kidman's father passed away suddenly.

I hated that. I think they said in the article I linked earlier in this thread that this was not going to happen. I feel like I read it somewhere.

ETA: I was googling. The top 24 list has already leaked.

I probably shouldn't have told you.

I don't care if I find out early who the top 24 are. I only saw about 5 maybe that I recognized at all. I don't memorialize the names and faces at this stage because we may never see some of these folks who make it ever again. I think this "pre-game" process lasts too long and we don't get to hear whole songs most of the time. And, I HATE when they sing in the groups and all of that drama. So unnecessary and silly, in my opinion. Someone good can be kicked off because someone else ruins the group. I don't even know why they do that since this is an individual singing competition.

I will say that two of them surprised me.

didn't even realize at first but, when did they start having the piano? seems like the auditions were A Capella?

I was talking about the groups during Hollywood week.

I think this is the first time I've seen a piano. The guy playing looks like a young Marvin Hamlisch. I thought it was him at first.
