I search for about 5 seconds and couldn't turn up anything. BUT, judging from the pictures I would be willing to bet the M&P sport does have a carbine length gas system, so YES those hand guards will fit. Maybe in the manual it will tell you the gas system length. If it is not carbine it is midlength.

You need to know if his buffer tube is mil-spec or commercial. Notice how the commercial has a slight slant on the back in the pic below:

can you post a pic of the rifle? I am almost certain that none of the sports come in mid-length gas system so if that's what he wants then it should be gtg

Also, if it doesn't work you are only out $17.34

They make rail sections for that hand guard. That was just the first link for it, pretty much everywhere carries that package.

Just curious, you planning on putting a vertical fore grip on it?

Shooting with a bare hand on rails sucks.

Magpul has the rail sections, but midway or Brownells should have them as well. I'm on a tablet so finding the kits instock might take minute.

Yes. But I would customize the rail sections to what you were looking to add (VFG, light, etc). They're cheap and work well.

I've used them on my Magpul forend for my HD shotgun and they've held up nicely.

Precisely. If it's a gift the frequently bought together is fine. Very easy to add rails for $5-$10 to suit your needs. I have a quad rail on my AR and like the MOE a lot. Easier to hold outside of the AFG/VFG.

Depends on which VFG and light, but the short ones should both work. If you're wary grab a medium as well and you can top mount something.

1 rail for each item, so I'd get a quadrail.

That's the one with a rail on all 4 sides.
