Rummy is so mad lol...
But seriously, romantic getaway doesn't equate to Austin. If this is for the anniversary, maybe split the difference and go to Gruene.

Not a bad town , but you can do all the worthwhile stuff in half a day. And yeah Alamo takes 5 minutes.

This place is fantastic. They make EVERYTHING from scratch. When I say everything, I mean they raise their own water buffalo so that they can make their own buffalo mozzarella. They had their friggin stone pizza ovens shipped from Sicily.

Another spot worth checking out. The entire building is slanted. It went through a flood a hundred years ago or something, and when it dried, the whole building was askew, and remains that way. All the windows are parallelograms & shite.

Thanks guys for all the help. About to book hotel, would like to stay somewhere really nice downtown within walking distance of Alamo/ and or riverwalk any suggestions?

as others have said, i don't get the attraction for the riverwalk ... been to sa several times to visit a friend, but we seldom went to the rw ... they think it has the feel of nola's quarter, but it's mostly chain restaurants with over priced food ... very few bars with any character at all ... hill country/austin is so much better ...

There was a place in the Riverwalk that had an awesome breakfast burrito. I wouldn't get it if you want to be romantic though, your sex life will take a hit afterwards.

You people...
You could easily have a romantic getaway in Austin if you did the right things. How old are some of y'all? It's not like the place is all college kids getting drunk at shitty bars. Stay off 6th, and you'll be fine. There are a lot of great restaurants and bars here in town to enjoy a nice romantic meal in, as well as some great hotels.
Gruene would be a good day trip, but I would base myself there - and that's where I got engaged.

Haven't been there in forever, but you can always go to the San Antonio Zoo or Sea World.

Menger Hotel is right by the Alamo, has a nice bar as well.
Marriott on the Riverwalk is tough to beat also.

If you like to golf they have quite a few good courses, other than that not much to really see or do.
