2004... Last year of Muschamp D, gave up 256 yds a game
In comes Pellini
2005 266 yds Total D
2006 242
2007 288
2008 Co D Coordinators... 325
2009 in comes Chavis... 327... total yds went up
2010 307
2011 261.. was it Chavis brilliance or a D that had 7 players drafted in first three rounds??
2012 307
2013 talent drained to NFL.. 340 ...worse than the co d.c. experiment
2014 Talent pool level back on the rise...316
Just get someone that can bring in the top D talent. Les prefers a no mistake, low risk offense that rests on a defense so he'll take a top D Tackle over a top RB most any day, right? That gives the D.C. an advantage.

we have zero DT's, zero LB's and 1 DE committed in this recruiting class.

And that is ridiculous!

I think this shows for the most part Chavis wasn't on the level of pelini or mischance. I'm looking forward to the change on defense. It will be very good next few years with upper class talent. Miles won't be coaching for more than a few more years anyway.

So that means Orgeron right?

Realize the change in offensive philosophy across the NCAA during that time.
Spread offenses were gimmicky in 2004. Hell, they were called system qb's and laughed at.
tl;dr: don't kid yourself.

Agreed that the change in offenses need to be factored into the stats in the OP. Still some interesting work.

Bring in a recruiter is correct. When will people realize talent makes coaches look good. Stop recruiting these little hybrid LB and beef up the DL and lets play smash mouth football again. It's not rocket science. You can run any scheme you want, if you don't have playmakers then play will not be made. We need guys who deliver the blow and not just wrap and hold on.

but yds/play went down, and pts/ game dropped dramatically. we didn't have all the ints (which helped the defense), but that was easily the worst OL under Les, which led to the worst running game, and worst TOP. there's a bit more than just ypg allowed.

I'd bet we've had more 4 and 5 star RBs than DTs under Les though.

And 4 running backs...

i agree , as long as you dont have a dc that tries to install some complicated bs system that takes the players 4 years to get .....
straight up smash mouth with top notch talent we should have no problem getting is the answer ....

OU wants Stoops gone. By him interviewing for the LSU job, he seems like a hot commodity. Nothing to see here.

Got it. Professor Plum in the Library with a candlestick.

I totally agree with not using these small arse linebackers in our defensive scheme they are so small they can be running backs or wide receivers.
I like the more bigger linebackers because when bama lines up they typically have good games against us on the ground. I'm glad chavis is gone with his prevent defense that always fails.
Our linebackers need to be 235-250 lbs. not welter type that gets toss around like he is little kid..

The whole problem with our defense is that the current DL creates no push upfront. Not too long ago we have studs in those positions who made plays and freed up the LBs. Our LBs this year got exposed taking on OL and lost the battle. Chavis type of LBs are non productive playing behind an average DL.

linebackers need to be like beckwith, not like welter. beckwith is 250 lbs of muscle

Brick Haley needs to go I been saying this for 4 years these guys never get in the backfield sacking the QB.. I can't remember the last time LSU had Defensive Lineman that had 10+ sacks per year. Look at Missouri look at their Defensive lineman they are putting big numbers up consistently.

Damn't dude I'm pissed at Chavis for the way he left, but there is no way in hell you can really compare offenses and defenses five years ago, let alone 10 years. Do you know how much the game has changed?????
