He's got the best players. This year and every year.

Give him "Recruiter of the year" and "Does what he ought to with his talent" awards.

I hate GT but Paul Johnson was one of many who should win it before Saban.

Coaches who deserved it more:

Gary Patterson
Urban Meyer
Dan Mullen
Paul Johnson
Mark Helfrich (in retrospect)

Hell, you could argue that Doc Holliday at Marshall and Skip Holtz at LA Tech did a better coaching job.

That's a large part of the college coaching equation.

The LOL of the year is that an Ohio State head coach hasn't won Big Ten coach of the year since Earle Bruce in 1982.

Late Tuesday morning, the foundation that oversees the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year award announced that Alabama’s Nick Saban is the 2014 recipient of the honor. The award comes on the heels of a regular season in which the Tide, with a new offensive coordinator and starting quarterback, went 12-1, won the SEC championship and earned one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff.

Iowa went unbeaten in conference and split the title with OSU.

Yes, Kirk Ferentz was a good coach once.

Meh... Not the recognized one.

Patterson won the AP award and Pinkel won the SEC, so I go with that.

That said, I agree, he should not have won that award...

Different COTY awards are gonna go to different coaches. No one wants to give the same coach the same award as someone else.

Nick Saban has never won Bobby Dodd COTY while at Bama, so it's probably pretty fair he got it this year in their committee's eyes.

Helfrich should have been a favorite as well.

Which part? Dan Mullen took a bunch of 3-star Alabama/Ole Miss/LSU rejects and his unranked Miss State team to a touchdown against Alabama in Tuscaloosa away from the SEC title.

I was more impressed with his coaching. And most teams just quit in Tuscaloosa when they have a first half against Alabama like they had.
