Forced Vacation at Work?

Need the OT's help to decide if I should be a little pissed about this work situation.
I work for a small structural engineering firm. I was planning on coming in for a halfday today and then working Friday (we have off Thuraday). My boss just said they're having everyone take today and Friday off, because we have a lot of projects that are currently on hold and it's really slow right now.
Should I be pissed that I'm being forced to take vacation when I don't want to? It seems like if they decide to close the office then we shouldn't have to use vacation time. Now they are really good about letting us use any overtime we work as comp time which essentially means if I work 60 hours one week then I have 20 extra vacation hours.
So I know I can make it up, it's just the principle really. What says the OT?

I'm kind of pissed that I'm not able to work on Friday. I have a lot of shite to do but they said the office will be completely closed.

We're slow right now but best I can hope for is getting out a little early today.
I'd be happy with the extra time off, but I'm on salary.
If y'all are that slow....why should the company pay for you to work today? Especially if they let you work for and receive overtime pay when y'all are busy.

Beats the hell out of people getting laid off when work is slow. Suck it up buttercup. And they actually let you use your comp time??? That is awesome and unusual. Is this your first job greenhorn?

What's next, no work on weekends?
America is lazy and crumbling.

Anger is like love, you can't just decide to fall into anger, it just happens. And when it does, it's magical and you'll know that you found the right anger for you. You can't force it man, just let it happen.

Sounds more like a furlough and they are giving you the option to use vacation time so you get paid. I wouldn't get in a twist about it, aside from the fact that it's short notice.

We pay unused vacation time 2 weeks ago.

So what happens if you get a little pissed? Gonna complain to your boss about it and get fired?

This. Just embrace it and enjoy the extra time off.

if it means so much to you, just quit.

Pick your battles, enjoy the week with your friends and family. Don't be the guy that bitches about something so trivial, when you probably have it better than most.

you are lucky they are generous to let you use overtime as comp.
Most place will laugh at this.
It's a new year, let the anger go

So.. you do not have to go to work. And you are getting paid anyways. What's the problem, really? I mean... does anyone EVER use all of their vacation?

My Father-in-law is retired but does contract work for a company in oil and gas. All employees just received an e-mail stating a new five percent decrease in pay for the entire staff as of the new year. Be mad and maybe start looking for a better company, but the grass isn't always greener.
