there used to be an army surplus store in every town of any size, but you seldom see them any more. is there no more surplus materials to sell?...is it disposed of differently?...

Easier to buy online. gear is dermo'd instead of released to public.

Me and a co worker were talking about this a few days ago. I worked outside so I bought most of my work clothes there. I still have a couple shirts that are 20 years old.

because the guys that owned them also owned the roller skating rinks. When the skating rinks went out of business, the Army surplus stores felt the repercussions and they all moved back to Tennessee. Wander Northeast young man, you'll find your camo and boot knives.

I sold a good bit of my multicams. I still have a shite ton of acu tops and bottoms. But I'd rather wear the new acu's when they come out once I start my first drill as a reservist

Black man became President.
World predicted to end.
Everyone became survivalist.
Pure coincidence there also exists a shortage of jorts and all white leather cross trainers.

I am looking at the camo patterns that are in use world wide and it looks like a suprising number of the countries in western africa use the old US woodlands pattern...could we be giving all of our old shite to the west africans?...

I know they have a Federal Surplus warehouse on Fuqua street. I think you have to be a nonprofit organization to buy from there. They have a few of the same items the surplus stores used to carry.

If I had to guess...

The amount going to surplus following WWII was enormous. What was there like 13 million in uniform at peak? All this material was also obsolete in faster intervals.

Secondly, I think it was easier to buy and wear OD green clothing and equipment than today's camo stuff. The old OD blends in with civilian life a bit more, and you don't look like a separatist, neo nazi, or some other anti social type. Old field khakis look not much different than Bills khakis. I'd feel like a tool wearing modern camo but not being in the military.

The military is operating at top efficiency, no surplus of anything.
