The DD crowd is one thing, but the people with mud motors riding around between first light and 9:00 jumping up resting ducks is another. Ducks don't have a place to be a duck around here except on refuges. I don't think the majority of people who are going out and spending $20k on a surface drive rig are NOT* the ones that decided "I'm going to be a duck hunter, Jack!" because they saw it on TV.
Ducks are smart when they get here, if they flair when you put out a robo-duck, why wouldn't they get up out of their pockets in the marsh when the convoy of mud motors comes down the channel. They go where it's quiet out in the middle of a bay raft up and wait.

Outside of my blind it's up to you what you do to your face/body.

so many people mad up in here. I actually think its worse that grown men complain about how other people are hunting, or wearing in the woods. So they wear face paint... big deal, so they dont call like you do.. big deal. I worry more about those that are hanging out on the streets that are probably going to try and rob or kill someone. its funny how alot are quick to point out these young guys flaws in the woods like the only way to do it is the way you have always done it. Hunting is constantly changing. Rather it be the fancy new cover scrents, or camo, or bows and rifles. Its not always done like "grandpa used to do it in his flannel and long bow" Im happy more people are in the woods

There has always been a pretty big contingent of 16-20 year old middle class white boys around here who all the sudden decide to strap on some DU stickers and a If It Dlies It Dies back glass display and lay siege on the refuges. Way before DD. Maybe there are a few more now because of it, but it's not like it's a whole new deal. And face paint/wine cork does actually help hide your face. Especially when it's cloudy. The problem is you have black shite all over your face.

I think Pop hit the nail on the head. These young kids get there new toys and gotta go try 'em out. This also has to do with the higher incomes that people have. More and better boats, and 4wheelers out there than I can remember from when I was a kid.
Social media can also be to "blame." Pics of people with piles of birds can't help but make it look easy.
You also have to admit that duck hunting is just more fun than about any other hunting. You get to stand around bullshitting with your buds, make hella noise, cook in the blind, play in the mud and still kill stuff from time to time.

It doesn't affect me, I just think it's stupid.... I've killed many ducks throughout my years, and have never painted my face.... Now DD guys paint their faces, I bet for the show only, now the fact that all these newbies show up with painted faces is just hillarious...
Look at my avatar, that's basically how I hunt... It's all about movement... Stay still, ducks wont flinch... Motion usually spooks ducks....

I used to paint the frick out of my face for duck and deer hunting. I hate the way masks feel around my nose/mouth.
Now I burn a wine cork and soot up.
Not everyone hunts in Venice 24/7 where you sit in 12 foot tall roso cane that makes a cave so you can wear pink shirts and fash your white nuts at the sky and the ducks run up by your buddy in a boat in the next pond don't give a frick and land on top of you all day.
