It's not just trashy people that own pits and defend them. There's a group of ultra-liberal people who rescue them and think they can do no wrong.
Recently there was a whole episode of This American Life where the entire staff talked about how concerned they were for Ira Glass (the lead producer) and his wife who own a pit bull rescue. The dog had attacked some kids at a wedding reception they brought him to. Had attacked some one on the streets and even had attacked Ira.
They walk him around the city and they put a muzzle on him because they know he will attack.
There was also a long arse article from a guy in Esquire magazine recently defending his pit rescue that attacked another dog and killed it while his daughter and wife were passing out pro pit bull educational leaflets in their neighborhood. I believe this was the second pit they owned that had killed another dog.

I work in the Er, I've seen 60 lbs pit pulls nearly tear their owners arms off. There is one dog that will never come into my house and that is a pitbull.

They must be awesome fricking dogs.
To have the ability to kill always, and occasionally act like a dog and actually kill another dog or human, and yet still garner the defense of otherwise seemingly smart humans.
If my neighbor got one, I don't think I would even discuss with him (as words/logic seem useless with pit owners.) I would immediately go into self defense mode and figure out how to secretly kill it.

There is a Pit Bull on my running route, in a yard behind a wrought iron fence. Goes nuts when I run by with my 85 lb Shepherd. My dog is chill, but vigilant when encountering that dog. It prob weighs in around 60 lbs. Its pretty darn intimidating, even behind a fence. I wonder what would happen if it got loose and tied up with my dog? Hope I never find out.

Glad to have shot and killed one a couple of months ago after it mauled and killed my neighbors little Mountain Feist. My kids were not going to be its next victim. I think the entire breed should be eliminated and their ignorant owners should be branded with a a hot iron to shame them for being so stupid.

You just don't know which ones are.
The people who let these dogs live with their kids are the ones I really question.
If my neighbor had one, that would be too close to my kid. It would die.

Ban and eliminate pit bull breeds. It was developed to literally fight bulls and cattle. People with self confidence issues own them.
