Colt could do the refinish work but their wait time is LONG.

Turnbull will give you a gun that looks like it was refinished by Turnbull.

Ford's has an excellent reputation for refinishing.

Transfer through an FFL is necessary.

Just saw your update. Incredible!

As has been said earlier you can send it back to Colt and it will be better than when your father originally purchased it. I guess it depends on whether you will make it a safe queen or whether you will shoot it?

That's awesome brother!

What do you want done to it besides being put back together? The finish looks to be in good condition.

Sorry, no help with a gunsmith, but glad you got it back!

It's got a lot of gouges and scratches in it in the usual spots that 1911's get them in (slide release, safety lever, etc...). Also, there's some work around the grip safety area that the original gunsmith started but never finished. The front site on the slide looks like someone tried to pull it off with a pair of pliers. The rear site pin isn't set fully in place. There's some wear with rust on the underside of the slide that needs fixing and overall knicks/scratches/rust all over the rest of the slide & frame that need refinishing.

Here's some closer pics of the more noticeable spots.

It will have a special place in my gun collection, that's for sure but in honor of my Father, who didn't believe in or own any safe queens, this one will not gather dust in the safe.

I didn't think about sending it back to Colt. That's a strong consideration but most likely the most costly too, I'd imagine.

I would send it to Turnbull. They use the old school charcoal bluing that colt uses. They even have factory roll marks if you want them rolled again. They will get it right. They did my blued Delta.

That's an awesome story and gun! If it were mine, I would check out Colt first.

Sorry for the delay, C. This obviously got buried when I was out of town.

I would send it where KR sent his Delta in. They appear to do fantastic work. You should only trust the best with that piece. Looks very nice.

Your gun looks great. I just haven't seen a Turnbull restoration that looks like original Colt.

Very nice gun. Get it back together and shoot it for a year, then get it reworked.
