Yeah, I can see it now.

Someone asks him what his name is and he says, "I be Bond, James Bond".

And of course, the original concept was for Jane Bond, not James, so this wouldn't be the first radical change. It would just be the first that we all noticed.

Then why not go all the way and change James Bond into Jane Bond. a bad arse black lesbian who gets all the beautiful women?

Well, why didn't you say this to begin with. If I knew you were just a racist troll I wouldn't have paid you any attention to begin with

Yeah, that got me too.

Elba's diction likely puts the majority of the posters on this board to shame

Idris Elba would be an awesome Bond. I thought I'd forever think of him as Stringer Bell, but I saw him in Luther and he was great. He's definitely got the chops to play Bond. Bond has to be British, but white or black wouldn't matter. He just has to be right for the role and Elba would be superb IMO.

Shockingly, LA is 100% right. Its a fictional character ffs.

I think this is overrated, and even so, they won't write any of this into a movie.

Also, it's Idris Elba, not [insert unattractive black actor here].

It doesn't even make sense. Even users of black vernacular don't say "I be" when introducing themselves.

i'm jumping in late, but the new slant on bond isn't built on that "sex symbol" status to sell to women

the last major bond actor that tried to be that kind of guy was moore, imho

dalton was dark...too dark for the society at that time. bronson was suave and british and a combo of smooth, sexy, and dangerous

craig is more action star with a side of class and a conflicted and brooding emotional state

i think idris elba would be a really cerebral bond. kind of like the traditional batman archetype. he'd probably play really well if there was more of an overarching villain/group standing above the conflicts of each individual film

Ironically, there was actually some scuttlebutt about Idris perhaps becoming the next batman after Bale.

And of course sectors of the Internet flipped the frick out in rage

I think Keenan Thompson should be the next Bond.

i remember that. my thought process is probably skewed subconsciously by that and stringer bell

and let's all be clear about my boy idris. he can speak in eloquent british accents and what not, but dude's baseline is street

he was a fricking rapper

Well aside from that being overtly racist, you obviously know nothing about Idris Elba. The guy is a badass.

But you're a fricking moron so I doubt you'll look into it.

The dude is pretty amazing. As ridiculous as the Luther series is from a logic standpoint, I love it. Ruth Wilson helps a lot.

Granted

But he is an actor at the end of the day, and a damn good one. The best actors go whole movies/tv series straying convincingly far enough from their baseline that they're believable in that role (it was embarrassingly late in the Walking Dead series before I realized Andrew Lincoln wasn't American , and I didn't know about Elba's rap career until I researched him a bit on a lark after I watched Pacific Rim )
