money talk - should I cut my hair?

Here are the details
* Software industry, I train sales reps on how to effectively engage with customers using iPads
* Hair is roughly chin length, will not neatly fit in a ponytail
* Culture for a software company is pretty uptight but remember its much less uptight than most other industries
* The boss is trying to change the culture to be edgier
* Due to some HR things unrelated to my hair or my ability to do my job, its basically impossible for me to get a promotion and/or raise at the company without first taking a major paycut
* 3 big meetings in Jan where I will be training >1000 sales reps on using the iPad including main stage presentations
* The only person who has commented on my hair being long (it takes 18 months to get chin length) is the boss that is trying to change the culture. He made a few remarks on the topic but when I pushed on him, he dropped it.
* I am already a well known odd ball within the company. I am generally well liked within the company.
* Other than the 3 events in Jan, I won't have any other event where my hair would matter until June and by then it will neatly fit into a ponytail
Here is what my hair roughly looks like
I am very torn on this. I like my hair. My wife likes my hair, all of my friends love my hair, strangers comment on my hair. At the same time I don't want to make my work harder, of course its basically impossible for me to get a raise and or a promotion so why should IGAF?

I'm thinking about growing mine out again...it's all about job security and knowing what you can get away with. You know best, but most will tell you to err on the cautious side by getting it cut to a "professional" hair length.

yeah, that is my thinking. And what I have always erred on but that really hasn't helped my career that much. Although I make really good money, I don't have a career. Maybe its time to try the opposite of what I would do????
I have great job security, they won't lay me off or fire me. We have really high turnover, and are trying to grow the company with skills like mine.

Can you slick it back with out looking too cheesy?

If you don't have a "career" it's not because of your hair. Nobody gives a shite. I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Leave company
Become male model
????
Profit
Seriously, it will always be easier to have a more traditional haircut. How much do you like your hair?

So you are in IT... your boss wants "edgier" culture, and he wants you to cut your hair? Seems to me if anything, he should want you to grow it out.

That's just weird.
If the boss is trying to be edgier, why would he have a problem with your hair?

- I always err to the side of being clean cut, but sounds like you are in love with your golden mane and confident that your job is not in jeopardy. Your audience would be mesmerized with your perm of passion anyways, so just be who you are, don't appease your boss and rock those locks of love!

This is the most humblebrag thread ever on the Money Board. Really subtle way to tell us you want to be a model. Haha. You got this thread in right before year end.
Humblebrag Thread of the Year 2014
If your hair looks like the picture and you are good at what you do then you have no worries whatsoever. I work in finance. Many have beards and long hair. Some have no hair at all. You have to dress nice too. You cannot look like some "hippy" for lack of a better term or wear patchouli.

I only have one piece of advice.
People who like your hair will say "Your hair looks great"
People who don't like your hair will not say "Your hair looks like shite."
It's the same with tattoos. If you want to have sex with a girl with a tattoo you do not tell the truth by saying "Wow, that looks like crap."
Nome sane? And good luck.
