I could be completely wrong, but I deal with NAPA. They have that pro-rated thing and will keep up with it which I wouldn't. They are also on the way up and down from the camp. I like to support the locals if possible. Nat'l chain so I'm good with them.

I've had great luck with Interstate Batteries.

I've recently made the switch and doing the same. First year so not sure the outcome yet.

Question for OB posters. How long do boat batteries usually last?

trolling batteries should last at least the "as stated" time if properly cared for

Yeah, I have the 2 batt charger on the little boat and it's been fine. I hate to talk about life span cause you know I'll be dead in the water next time I go out.
I for one don't keep receipts or drag stuff from here to there, having NAPA on Hwy 56 is easy and supports the locals.

Just bought 2 Interstate deep cycle trolling motor batteries.

"Traded in" the old cores - both were the 2009 Interstate batteries that came with the boat. They still ran fine -- just thought it was time for new ones.

Mack - if you are in the Ascension parish area try Gulf South Battery Doctors. They only deal with high quality lead acid batteries. Batteries and battery chargers are their only business. Good people to talk to, I've learned a lot from them.

I'd also second Auto Zone batteries.

You have a Merc. That needs a 1000 CCA battery. Interstate has never let me down as for as a cranking battery.

Heck, I got to the point that I used them in tractors and a backhoe.

In boats, they always lasted 5+ years. I changed them out just due to age, but they were still good.

Walmart Everstart Marine Maxx. Just replaced two that were 7 years old. The most important thing is to keep them charged and maintained and they will last a pretty good while.

There are only 4 or so battery manufacturers in the U.S.: Interstate, East-Penn/Deka, Exide, and Johnson Controls.

So basically, every store just re-labels a battery as their own. In my experience, avoid Exide batteries...though I'm not sure what they look like now, I used to be able to point them out. Pretty sure Auto-zone uses Deka, which is a good brand.

I just bought another marine deep cycle battery from Wally World for my trolling motor. The old battery was a Wally World battery I bought in 2009. I do have a Guest on board charger that keeps it in top shape. It's nice to just plug in the on board charger after a day of fishing and she's all ready to go in the morning.
