It's been 20 days since Michigan officially fired Brady Hoke. The search to find Hoke's replacement in Ann Arbor has been eerily quiet because there's always been one target, and since that target was Jim Harbaugh and he was still coaching the San Francisco 49ers, there really wasn't much that could be done. But the NFL season ends in six days, and it's starting to sound like the wait could be worth it for Michigan.

ESPN's Adam Schefter appeared on "NFL Insiders" on Monday, and the info he shared will no doubt be music to the ears of Michigan fans everywhere.

"The pendulum has shifted to Michigan and [Harbaugh] going back to college," said Schefter.

Why didn't the Gators wait until after the NFL season ended to make a run at Harbaugh?

Les isn't going anywhere after they made him wait. He's got his pride too, he's not going to be a consolation prize. Which leaves them very few other viable options.

Going to be interesting Sunday night into Monday.

If Harbaugh isn't fired/quits in the early part of the week, chances are Harbaugh will be entertaining NFL offers.

I think everyone knows at this point even the NFL guys that are changing their tunes.. that barring a last minute change of heart he is going to Michigan. He has told people in Ann Arbor he is taking the job.

This is what I've been saying all along while we get called twits, idiots, etc. It's very strange that a successful NFL coach would simply go "man I'm mostly kicking arse in the NFL, but I want to give college a try again". There's way more to this story if he goes to Michigan.

this is shocking,

an nfl coach leaving the west coast to coach at a dump like ann arbor, and michigan is years away from being decent

Maybe. He would inherit a team with a solid D, 2 5 star RBs and a high 4 star, and OL with a lot of starts under its belt, and some highly recruited WRs. Only thing missing is a QB.

No its not

Michigan gave hi 8 million reasons to come coach in college

Bama started this when they hired Saban

Michigan is just following that plan.

Better hope Stephen Ross or Larry Page is ponying up the $10mil/year, because the Academics will go absolutely ape shite if they try to use general funds.

yea, but saban was a failure in the nfl,

harbaugh was on the cusp to winning a superbowl plus his bro has one and i'm sure he'd like to get one too

Especially when they're getting their nuts fed to them 2x/year by an adversary ("what's your deal?"). Coaching in the NFL is a f'ing hard, thankless job. Coaching in the Big 10 is a freaking cakewalk by comparison and someone with Harbaugh's chops should be able to win 9-10/year just by showing up. If the reports on dollar amounts are accurate, I think he'd be an idiot to turn down the gig in Ann Arbor.

I think it could make sense that he likes it more. He's obviously had a bad experience with the NFL. Maybe he would rather have more control over his program like he would in college. Maybe the power struggle he's had with the 49ers ownership has soured his taste on the NFL.
