I think its easier to be a college coach than an NFL coach. You actually have an off season.

And you have more control over players -- you can run off thugs, guys with bad attitudes and head cases. It isn't like the NFL where a dickhead like Jay Cutler can put you in salary cap hell.

The money is roughly the same -- shite if Michigan wants to give Harbaugh $8 million, that's better than NFL salaries. Plus, the cost of living in Ann Arbor is a lot lower than the Bay Area. And the quality of life in most college towns is a lot better than many NFL cities.

I mean, to me, unless you hate recruiting and dealing with boosters, coaching at a big-time college is preferable to the NFL.

Better hope Stephen Ross or Larry Page is ponying up the $10mil/year, because the Academics will go absolutely ape shite if they try to use general funds.

The athletic department is financially independent and it will stay that way I believe. Ross has donated over $300 million to Michigan already, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a few more if he had to to give the football program its best chance at returning to glory.

There is no off season. Chip Kelly has confirmed this. An NFL coach actually has more of an off season than a college coach.

Right after your bowl game you're on a plane recruiting. Then National Signing Day. Then spring practice and the spring game. Then before you know it Fall practice begins.

I think everyone knows at this point even the NFL guys that are changing their tunes.. that barring a last minute change of heart he is going to Michigan. He has told people in Ann Arbor he is taking the job.

this is shocking,

an nfl coach leaving the west coast to coach at a dump like ann arbor, and michigan is years away from being decent

Harbaugh is an egomaniac that might want to work unchecked in his kingdom, somewhat like Saban.

Ann Arbor is a great place to live. Pretty sure it is often on best places to live lists.

Oh, and all the ties back to the school with him, his dad, friends, etc.

Why didn't the Gators wait until after the NFL season ended to make a run at Harbaugh?

Ok that would not make me happy.

Just because a third option isn't better than either of those two doesn't mean were screwed. Mora would be a tough pull but I think he's a valid 3rd option.

Even if he goes to Michigan, the first good year he has he will be flirting with NFL teams like he did numerous times at Stanford.

I just can't see how a coach who has come so close to the pinnacle of his sport, Super Bowl Champion, would leave and coach in the Big 10. Makes no sense.

Luckily Jim Harbaugh doesn't seem to have the same line of thinking as posters on tigerdroppings. Who knew.

Even if he does go to michigan, he'll be back in the nfl within 3-4 years, you can take that to the bank.

Okay, here it is: Short of last-minute change of heart - still possible, w/NFL offers coming- I'm calling JH to UM 85%. Too much inside info

That is Bacon, he is about as in to the Michigan program as a writer can be.

I agree with that assessment...BUT, the fact it has been so quiet in Anne Arbor and SF leads me to believe there is a hot fire burning.....with very little smoke.
