Is there something you can buy that will fix this?

I thought the FCC passed something that commercials can't be much louder than programming?

One of my biggest annoyances. I have trouble sleeping and it royally pisses me off to doze off during a show like 60 Minutes that I put on to relax and then have a loud arse commercial wake me up.

If I'm watching something live then I'll mute the commercials. Otherwise, fast-forwarding through that shite.

There used to be a TV that advertised an auto volume type setup. Normalised commercial levels. I figured all these smart Tvs would have it by now and they dont

Poor sound mixing. Local companies skimp on advertising and the production ends up skimping on sound equipment.

Fun fact: Old VCR recorders could skip the commercials when recording because they could monitor the volume and switch the recording on or off.

It's good advertisement, not poor mixing. Everything is done with purpose. The FCC regulation doesn't go into effect until June 2015. That's when fines will start being handed out.

Didn't it used to be a law, BHO forgot to renew it, and he signed it again earlier this year?

Ooooohhhh idk....maybe you're at home when the show you want to watch is on, you dumbass?

In the above scenario, should you leave the house or intentionally do something else to avoid watching TV simply for the purpose of watching it on dvr?

The quiet commercials are the ones that get my attention.

Why so hostile? An hour long TV show has about 15 minutes to 20 minutes of commercials. You can pause the live TV for ~15 minutes and make it through an entire show without watching a commercial.

I have a Denon receiver that has a volume normalizing setting. I think most of the modern receivers have the same ability

Sports, primarily. And yes, the volume of the commercials annoy me, too.

I am almost certain there is an expert that will attribute a significant increased risk in hearing loss to the volume of commercials over a long period of time. Unfortunately, it would be too large to file as a class and damages would be too insignificant on small scale in my opinion.

I think it's because most people leave the room to get a snack or something and they want you to hear it.
