These cops deserved to be shot as much as Eric Garner deserved to be choked to death.

Eric Garner wasn't fricking choked to death the sooner people realize this the smarter they will be. It's amazing the way media can spin shite.

The fact that people feel the need to choose sides and turn isolated incidents into sweeping social commentary is sad. Each of these incidents on their own are terrible, and none of them put together in any way proves some overarching truth. Why folks feel the need to pick-and-choose facts and fictions from these incidents to fit their own views is beyond me... cheapens the fact that people died for seemingly no good reason.

But how did the shooter even have a gun if it is illegal to carry there? I'm sure he was a good boy and never meant harm to anyone (except of course the girlfriend he killed earlier).

I'm so confused about how this happened. How did the other cop not have enough time to do something?

Two cops would be alive but for a gun. Your point?

Shooter stood behind the car and shot through the rear window (per witness in NY Times article)

It was a homicide — and the chokehold killed him.

Eric Garner, the Staten Island dad who complained that he couldn’t breathe as he was subdued by cops, died from compression of the neck, the medical examiner said Friday.

The autopsy also found that compressions to the chest and “prone positioning during physical restraint by police” killed Garner. The manner of death, according to the medical examiner, was homicide.

Because it only takes about 3-4 seconds to draw and empty a semi-automatic pistol into targets in a close proximity.

My point, is that gun laws have no impact on those looking to commit crimes. That should be fairly obvious.

Are you saying that other people having guns isn't a deterrent to crime?

Ditto. I think the police should use facebook likes and the personal opinions of others as cause on whether or not to harass them or spy on them. Using government employees to give special treatment to people who don't agree with me is a great idea. That's why I'm so glad Obama and the IRS target conservative groups. Those people should be treated differently for disagreeing with the President. This is America. You have to agree with the cops and the President or else.

This is why issues will never get solved in our country.

Police overstep their authority / lose public trust
Crazy people like this guy decide to make a point to "stand up to it"
This leads to police seeing the public as even more of a threat and use events to get even more control.

And around and around we go

As for the original story, absolutely terrible. RIP
