I'm going to tread carefully here.
I'd love to see this. I like Idris Elba. Have no issue with a black guy as Bond. I mean, lets be honest, a movie franchise thats spanned close to 50 years and technically never changed characters and your issue is suddenly the actor is black?

I'd love to see this. I like Idris Elba. Have no issue with a black guy as Bond. I mean, lets be honest, a movie franchise thats spanned close to 50 years and technically never changed characters and your issue is suddenly the actor is black?

Would make a lot more sense. Hes only 37, young enough to be able to build the character with fans. You could've done that with Craig, but they've gone too long between movies. He's pushing 50 now.

frick that. James Bond is white. It's not enough already that the PC crowd is being placated with a black Felix Leiter and Monypenny? For frick's sake. Just stop.
I've actually seen a theory that James Bond is just a code name, hence the various Bond characters and personalities. Just like M, Q, Moneypenny, etc.
Yeah, and that theory is crap. The theatrical and literary Bond's both have a family history and a family crest. Bond's childhood is chronicled as well. So for the race baiters, get over yourselves. That's not what this is. At least for me, I have an appreciation for what the author intended.

I have no problem with Elba as Bond. I think he could do a great job in the role.
The real question is - if SNL ever reprises the Jeopardy sketches, could he (actually someone playing him) take up the Connery mantle needling Trebek?

If you've ever read any of Ian Flemings original stories, the James Bond you see onscreen really is nothing like the James Bond you see on paper.

Idris Elba will never be Bond and here's why: he'll be too old for the role by the time it becomes available.
Daniel Craig still has one more Bond film left on his contract after Spectre. That final film won't be out until 2017 at the earliest but will more than likely get a 2018 release. Assuming Craig hangs it up after that, Elba will be either 48 or 49 years of age when his first film as Bond is released in theaters (assuming a 2020 or 2021 release date). That means he will be over 50 years of age when his second film as James Bond is released.

100% agree, too. I'm a huge Bond fan..like ridiculously huge, and I really just don't like the new films. Bond has never been about continuity really, but the new ones just shite all over the old ones in that respect.

he did seem to be a bit of a baby about playing Heimdall in a recent interview but it was tough to read his tone. He may not be anywhere near as bitter as it sounded on the page.
