drunk people and tourist are easy targets. However the best way to make sure you don't end up being a victim is staying in high traffic areas and well lit up areas. During the day ill use side streets and things to get around but at night I stick to the main roads. I would do that in any major city though not just new orleans.

the other parts of town aren't fueling a resurgence of the city. Also most people in the other parts of town don't want any outsiders coming in that area anyways.

Areas that drive the economy of a city are far more important than those that don't. Why shouldn't they receive more attention when crime happens? Life isn't fair and when resources need to be allocated you need to protect the cash cow.

What really makes me about this is that most of the businesses in the FQ are locally-owned (or at least there is a disproportionately high number of locally-owned businesses there). It's too bad that the city doesn't take care of its own better than that.

NOPD use to deliver some epic beatings to people. I can remember stories from my parents about when you see shite going down in the FQ move away from it unless you want to risk a billy club coming down for just being in the area. I have also seen them roll in on fights and shut that shite down.

so the FQ and the business district aren't what has helped the city rebound from katrina? they bring in the money, they are more valuable.

the tourist and business areas should receive the most service, then the wealthy neighborhoods, then upper middle class, and middle class. its all about putting the important areas of the city in the correct order. The projects should get the least resources because they aren't going to talk anyways.

I'm still trying to figure out how the road between the Ritz and Hyatt on the way to Bourbon is not considered high traffic near Deanies Seafood. If the only streets you are safe on in walking on Canal,Poydras or Decatur. Then that's a pretty big problem.

You are the typical ignorant tourist who thinks New Orleans is one big Bourbon Street.

If anything since the storm other areas have blown up while the only thing blowing up in the FQ is crimes like these.

Where there are tourists, there WILL be pick-pockets, always. Go live in Paris for a month, they're notorious for it.

The murders, armed robberies, muggings etc. are obviously a different matter that definitely needs to be addressed.

wrong, I know no is not one big bourbon street. That is why I said the business and tourist areas should be the top spots to protect. The FQ happens to be what is being discussed in this thread. Im just saying id pull resources from the lower income areas and put them on the warehouse district, the fq and other areas that provide value.

do you live in a low income area? that is who I'm proposing should have the least resources dedicated to it. plus I'm not saying no cop coverage there, you clearly can't do that. Its just i would have a minimal presence in that area while keeping a heavy presence in the areas that provide economic value to the city.

It's New Orleans there are a ton of mixed income neighborhoods. You got million dollar homes in the same area with section 8. Tourism is all over the it's just not in the FQ.

I would love I see a bigger police presence in my hood and I live a few blocks from a police station
