i'd say if you came in with a large group you should expect this just as the staff should be expected to make less money. Just the way it is.
Once again, that is fine. I get it, I am just speaking about my expectations.
I get the stereotype, I really do.

What will the pro athletes wear on their tshirts this week after this incident? I see them wearing shirts saying "Would you like an appetizer?"

Every once in a while
Every once in a while. Know what that means? You probably just got a shite server. Or an a-hole.
Your average server isn't going to treat you differently just because you're black.
Also. Attitude goes a long way. I get asked almost every time I dine out if I work in the service industry. I don't anymore, but my servers always know I did. Know why? Because everything is "Oh thank you so much" and "take your time, no rush at all"
Just saying things in a genuine manner make it VERY obvious what kind of person (and tipper) you are. If you and your wife are super polite like that, which I assume you are if you get good service 90% of the time, nobody is stereotyping you.

shite like this is why places want to add an 18% gratuity to the bill. I can't stand that. While I typically cone out cheaper, the tip being added automatically is a pisser.

Yeah, kind of like white guilt. Its when black people go out of their way to show that they are not like "those" blacks.
Using this situation, its when a black person would tip like 200% to a shitty server, because they want them to know they are not ni....

So basically because i'm black I am not entitled to good service when I go to your restaurant?
I can't speak for everyone, but when I was a server I knew within a one minute whether or not a table was going to give me a decent tip. There are multiple things that tip you off, unfortunately including race.
Now, if you walk in dressed like an upstanding citizen and treat your server with respect, you'll likely get good service. If you look like a slob, fold your arms, roll your eyes, and act like you're better than the person grabbing your drinks you deserve to be treated poorly.

Unless you enjoy spit in your food, do not go dine in and take your sweet time within 45 minutes of close. Rule of thumb from a former cook.

Do black people view waiting jobs as modern day servants or something? I honestly cannot think of many restaurants here in Lafayette with black waiters or waitresses now that I think about it.

Let me say this, the best tips I get are from black people
The ones who are respectful and polite and have reasonable expectations on what to expect from the type of restaurant they are going to.
I had a black family come in last week and treat me with great respect, made sure their kids told me "please and thank you" and didn't complain, thanked me for my service, etc. and left a good tip.
It's more of the ghetto street types I am talking about that make me cringe.

I have gotten shitty service many times, I believe for just being younger, and I mean horrible service. Some were bad enough where we waited 45 minutes for our order to be taken, I was getting up to refill my own drinks, and asked another waitress to get my food out of the window. The girl only had three tables that night. It was so bad that I asked the manager for another waitress because of the ineptitude, and told him I'd walk if he couldn't straighten shite out. If it weren't the gf's bday, and she didn't specifically ask for Melting Pot in New Orleans, I would've bolted.
Another one I can think of off hand was at Luke downtown. Was weird because I was the only white couple in this guy's entire section. Same exact stuff happened as before, but this dude auto-gratted himself 20%, and brought out the receipt with a spot for an extra tip. I talked to the manager on the way out and told him it was a horrible experience, food was mediocre, the shitty waiter tipped himself 20% on a two-top, and services deplorable. Blew them up on the internet, including naming the waiter, and they offered me a free desert if I brought my receipt. I guess they thought free shite would negate my previous experience, but I'm not an idiot and do not want free food as a consolation prize for a bad experience.
Has been that way a few other places. I typically tip 20% and go up or down from there, but I have no problem giving a zero dollar tip.

it takes longer than 30 seconds to make

This has nothing to do with black people, but it would drive me INSANE that someone would be angry their food was taking too long when it was ON THE GRILL.
I had someone come in while we were on a 20 minute wait. She was on her lunch break. Which was 30 minutes. She got seated and ordered a grilled chicken club.. the #1 longest cook time. Raw chicken breast.. think about how long it takes you to make at home, lady. It takes us the same amount of time.
After 10 minutes, she angrily asked that it be boxed because her lunch break is over. And she didn't tip.
I should have just brought the chicken out raw and told her this is the only way she can have it immediately. Otherwise, she has to wait.

Don't have a link but a buddy of mine from St Louis told me a few years ago blacks started over tipping because of the stereotype.

This goes for anyone regardless of race
Well kept, well mannered, polite people are going to tip good, white or black
Trashy, rude, arrogant, unkept, disrespectful people aren't going to tip well, white or black
I can tell by looking at the party which category they fall in. White trash people tip poorly too.
That doesn't mean I haven't been tipped poorly by well kept, well mannered, polite white people. And I have gotten good tips from rude white trash/ghetto blacks, but everything regresses to the mean

I have several black regulars at my restaurant who are very conscious of the stereo type and will try to accept problems I'm trying to fix...i tell them you should have a great experience every time and the team can tell problematic customers regardless of the race.
I have also had a lot of black guests who believe their bad service was only because they were black...news flash, white people get bad service too, white people run servers and don't tip too and all high school kids fail to tip.

I've done it, but I'm always clear that I'm a very fast diner. I'm not expecting anything other than to eat quickly and leave.
