To all the libs on here doubting the perceived racism in this story, please remember to apply this same line of critical thinking next time you hear a story about "racism" directed at a black person. Thank you.

This is all projection: "But to her."

You have no idea what she was thinking but you assumed her tone was directed at you and your color.
Hmmmm.

This is the problem many on this board suffers from. Worry about your own business and stop trying to find conflict from others. Especially of color. You reek of an inferiority complex.

When a person is looking at you while making a comment, it's addressed to you. It's simple logic.

I was at the mall shopping yesterday with the grad daughter. I was standing in line waiting to check out behind one older black woman and 2 middle aged black women.
The older black woman at the register was going on and on about some supposed discount that she wanted and they felt she shouldn't deserve. This dragged out for about 10 minutes.
The 2 black ladies asked the cashier if they didn't have someone else to open up a second register? She said no, and they remarked something like," it's a week before Christmas, why don't you have help?"
Right after they finally made their way to the counter, a second girl opened up a register and said," next". Since I was next, I stepped up and walked to the checkout. One of the black ladies said," Um Huh, now they open another register" in a snide voice looking at me while she said it.
The implication was that they now opened a second register for a white person.
The truth is that I was waiting in the same line as her and just as long and I was simply the next customer up, but to her, it was somehow racially motivated.
Why do some people of color go through life seeing all incidental events as racially motivated?

You definitely brought race into this one. I have often waited 20 minutes in a line with one cashier working and the rest (I guess) in the back dorking around. As soon as I'm about to check-out (and there's still a line around the corner, suddenly two more registers open and people who've only been waiting a couple of minutes are getting taken care of. I always think "I just knew they'd open more registers and clear this shite out after I'd wasted 20 minutes of my time". The cashiers, managers, etc are almost all black or hispanic (DC).

There was no conflict. I walked to the cash register, checked out and left.

There are two problems with your assessment. One, we were both waiting in the line about the same amount of time because we both arrived about the same time.
Second, her comment wasn't spoken to the cashier or her friend, but to me.

You might have a reading comprehension problem in this instance? I was behind them, once they finally made their way to the open register the second was opened. I stepped up the the second because I was next after them.

Well, FAWK!!!

Can you edit your OP so that my posts are more accurate?

TIA

I'm at work so I can't read all the post and so forgive if germans but why didn't you be a gentleman and let them go first since they were ahead of you? Maybe I'm way off but that's what I would have done.

Nevermind my comment. I see now they were already at the cashier counter.

The situations needn't be identical for the point to be made. Like me, she may have simply been bitching because the store decided to give the customers behind her a break and open a second line after she'd already suffered the wait. I wasn't there to observe her or her tone, but maybe she thought you'd agree with her (given that you were in the same boat).

I was right behind them in the line almost the same amount of time as they were. The second register became available right after they stepped up to the first. I stepped up to the second one being next in line. We both waited the same amount of time for service.

Honest question: do you think the woman viewed you as white?

Because in my experience, I've noticed that I view the world far more through class lenses. If I saw a black dude with baggy jeans but straight teeth and a white dude in a polo with saw blade teeth, I'd prefer to be around the black dude bc I know he was able to afford orthodontics.

Race has less bearing than class.

So really do you think she saw you as white?

"My posts should be graded on a curve with lower benchmark standards"

Given the quantity and quality of your posts, you provide a less-than-persuasive argument for any sort of affirmative action.
