No, its because they are being consistent. Many black stories of racism are dissected on this board, looking for alternate explanations besides racism. Same should happen when a white person shares an example of what he interprets as racism. I mean, there is no objective evidence of racism in Rev's story. His only rebuttal is "well I was there and I know what she meant." We're just all supposed to accept that?

I can only speak for myself, but I am inclined to believe Rev may have read the response correctly because my experiences have taught me that blacks are more apt to use race as their go-to for whatever ill has befallen them than whites.

A buddy I grew up with has become very militant over the years. Since Obama became President his Facebook posts have gone more and more to the "whitey is out to get us" philosophy. He and I have had many public and private discourses on race over the years but the one thing he's said that comes back to me most is when he once said "it's always about race". The sad fact is there are a lot of blacks out there that believe that. They aren't as militant as my friend in their expressions of it, but it does color their view of the world.

My story and your example are completely different. In my case, the comments were directed at me and it was plain. In your scenario, when someone is cut off, the driver who is in the other vehicle is not a factor.
Do you see any difference between your story and the one I posted on page 4? I would love to hear how you compare and contrast them.

When a person is looking at you while making a comment, it's addressed to you. It's simple logic.

Is the only thing about you your whiteness?

Answer this: how do you know she wasn't sexist and pissed off that you were a man?

I'll wait.

Good question. If race roles were reversed though, what would be your first thought? That she was saying it because you are a man, black or a black man?

They are 2 different scenarios and one has nothing to do with the other. I can only speak to my scenario.

Neither. I would honestly think she was just pissed off they couldn't have opened this register a while ago, and was looking for someone--anyone--to vent frustration towards.

But then again I don't view all of my interactions through racist lens like Rev.

So you are saying she could have been both racist and sexist? I guess you are right? It doesn't help her case though.

Since almost all of your interactions on this board are mostly comments about your race or how it deals with your race, I'd disagree.

No, I'm saying this could all be 100% sexism. That strange look, her attitude, etc which you attribute to your race could be due only to your sex. All the evidence you have put forward is 100% compatible with this scenario.

I'm trying to illustrate that there are multiple variables here, and you chose to focus on race. Why, I don't know.

Maybe she was just pissed and saw you as a customer like her.

I guess all of this is possible, but highly unlikely. I don't usually see people getting bent out of shape over gender though.

Nah. That she was looking back directly at him when she made the snide remark generally means she meant the remark toward him. As Grind has brought up, it could have been because of his gender, as Rev brought up it could have been because of his race or it could have been both. The look and snide comment weren't about solidarity, they were casting aspersions of some sort.

The greater point in all of this though is not to knee-jerk blame others for what is just shitty luck.
