All kinds of things can happen when you get older to have them removed. An increase in infections, enlargement that causes obstruction issues, etc. I've never had mine out because there's never been a reason to take them out.

When you first come out, you are going to think, this isn't that bad. Do not get pulled into thinking you don't need pain meds. Take them. I'd also recommend that when you take pain meds make ourself drink a good bit of water. You don't want those scabs to get too dry and crack. Days 3 and 4 are going to be a bitch.

I still have my appendix, I just always thought tonsils and andoid issues usually developed at a young age. Shows what I know I guess....

Kinfolk had tonsils removed one year and brain surgery the next. Said she would rather have the brain surgery again that the tonsils. (and the b. s. was 6 hours and recovery was very tough).

forgot the advice.........assume and prepare for it to be the worst pain you have ever felt for 7 days. whatever you can think of/// ice cream, throat longues, throat pain spray ----whatever....get as much as you might possibly need. take pain meds as prescribed. and dont have any other plans for 7 days. Prepare for worst, hope for best

Don't forget you'll probably have diarrhea from the antibiotics.

My scabs ruptured while I was on the toilet. Pretty horrific experience.

They'll bleed ALOT. Just gargle ice water if they do.

I was told if I had any bleeding in the first two days to go straight to the ER.

Was also told that I would probably have some light bleeding after 2 weeks, which I did, and that was normal and not to freak out.

Lidocaine lollipops. And ask for something stronger than hydrocodone. Seriously. Have a supply of soup on hand that you like. Try Gatorade first; if it doesn't work then pedialyte should. Good luck.

Had them taken out a year ago. I'm 25.

Water water water. I had a cup of water in my hands for 2 weeks. Even when it hurts to swallow keep drinking water.

They pulled out the robot for just Tonsils?... or did you have surgery on your tongue/lingual tonsils for sleep as well?

More than one way to skin a cat. Laser has fallen more out of use. Only seen a few people who still use the laser for tonsils.

The recent trend has been coblation, which supposedly reduces post-op pain. Not sure how much of a believer I am of it for that reason.

Definitely quit smoking cigarettes if you do. Your doctor will tell you to give up anything that requires a sucking motion, like smoking, drinking from a straw, or sucking dick.

Skip the pain pills and go straight to heroin ftw.

Make sure you have somebody stay with you for a few days. A guy I went to high school with died in his sleep. He bled out. I am serious.

The older you are the longer it takes to heal and it'll hurt like a mother for a week or two.

My advice: milk it for all it's worth.

So it happened today. I just got home and I'm feeling alright. The pain is pretty bad but I can handle it.

I got drugs, and I'm staying hydrated. Off work until feb 9

Thanks everyone for the help!
