Is this just a money grab? Went to a range today that inspected my ammo and said no reloads...obviously I won't be going back

Safety.

They don't want you to blow yourself up and then have your family sue them.

The real money grab is when they require you to buy their ammo. I've never been to a no reload place but one time went to a new place with my father in law that wanted us to buy from them and wouldn't let us shoot WWB. We walked out.

If they are hard cast bullets, they don't like the fumes in the air produced by bullet lube and potential burnt lead. If you use plated or jacketed bullets, it shouldn't be a problem. If it still is, go to a different range.

I can understand not allowing Joe bob's reloads that he did in his basement...but not allowing factory reloads? Meh, guess there's no way to tell

Hadn't thought about that. But the place I usually go is an outdoor place.

I can't imagine how a range would stay open if they didn't allow outside ammo

Makes sense. We went to another indoor range that didn't care. Although this place didn't allow rifles

I know that at Precision in Baton Rouge, they only make you use their ammo if you are using one of their rental guns. This makes sense to me and I'm alright with it.

I've shot my reloads every time I've gone. But I load Berry's Bullets, which are visibly copper plated.

Glad I live out in the country where I can shoot outdoors.

I guess some of those indoor ranges don't want to stay in business.

I've been to ranges that don't even allow you pick up spent brass casings either.

This isn't uncommon. They sell that brass to recyclers and reloaders, so you are cutting into their profit margin. I've seen some clown in Precision shoot about 3 magazines before fulling up an entire duffel bug with our casings that were on the floor (he pulled the empty duffel out of his range bag). He even grabbed a couple of handfuls out of the can for spent casings (looking shifty as hell while doing it).

This clown was hunched over while people are shooting. Aside from being slimy, it's also dangerous.
