I go all the way back to my second year at LSU - that 1961 team was loaded. An early season loss to Rice kept this team from the recognition it deserved.

1983 Orange Bowl Team was epic. More fun, imo than 2011 with Les breaking our hearts. Besides we got to throw oranges on the field against FSU! Yeah, we lost the orange bowl, but it was fun!

1997: NFL Athletes that team had
Kevin Faulk
Allen Faneca
Todd McClure
Cecil Collins
Anthony McFarland
Jarvis Green
Kenny Mixon
Herb Tyler (Greatest duel threat QB LSU has had)
Larry Foster
Mark Roman
Chuck Wiley
Adam Perry
Ben Bordelon
list goes on...

A Great team of athletes and probably the best offensive line in LSU history. They also beat #1 Florida that year in an awesome game. Saban made us elite, but Gerry DiNardo set the stage with recruiting.

i was and am very brokenhearted about the mulligan, but after watching the unfairness of the sec regarding al and aub for the last 60 years, i was estatic about the tigahs!

Yea, the SEC being unfair is why Les didn't make a single change or even appear to fight for his team on the sidelines during that game.

And the mean unfair SEC is why Bama has won the last four.

In my view, the '87 and '06 teams were both national contender worthy, though well behind the excellent '11 team. In '87, some unfortunate circumstances caused the team to stumble in a tie to Ohio State and a loss to 'Bama(without Hodson for 'Bama). That team blew up just about everyone they played with more than a dozen future NFLer's on board. They finished top 5 after destroying a pretty good USCe team in their bowl game. I still feel like the Tigers were the best team in the country by the end of '06. Still wonder if the playcalling struggles between Les and Jimbo didn't lead to both losses. Of course, who knows if better play-calling could have offset what was pretty horrible officiating in both games.

2011 - Never more relaxed during a football season.

Same here. It was so magical to watch us come out week after week and crush opponents. The guys looked like they were relaxed and having fun out there...until JJ returned. Even though Lee had a meltdown against Bama, the team was never the same after the Kentucky game when JJ came back.

1981, 1986 & 1987 basketball teams, if we're talking national championships only.
