Why doesn't Grand Funk (the older stuff)get any recognition or respect. The early 70's material was very timely and good.

I think they get plenty...maybe too much. "Some Kind of Wonderful" and "American band" are played twice a day at least on Eagle.

I love GFRR, but I think they get overly abused on radio. I think many of their songs are loved, yet people don't know who plays them -- I could see that angle, though.

Grand Funk was my first favorite band. They were pretty good players but horribly produced until Rundgren came along. I still listen to a little of it once in a while out of nostalgia. It sounds very dated these days.

Noticed Don Brewer playing drums for Bob Seeger on Letterman last night. Just looked it up and Craig Frost is his keyboardist.

Wonder where Mel Schacher is? He and Brewer had a bad split with Mark Farner.

Grand Funk was another sad tale of friends who were good at making music, but bad at the business of being musicians. They hardly made a dime despite their success. They were getting paid a weekly wage by their manager for being in the band. Their manager at the time owned everything, and got very wealthy. They even screwed up firing the manager. Then the disagreements they had about money caused irreparable damage to their relationships.

"American band"

We played this in the high school band in the mid-70s. Crowds in New Orleans would eat it up.

You can't really put the blame on them, they were maybe around 22 years old, who would expect them to know anything about business or contracts, that is why managers are hired. Unfortunately they hired a crook. but Karma has no expiration date, and the universe will always returns to equilibrium, that occurred in November of 2004 when their former manager Terry Knight was killed by his daughter's boyfriend.

I saw them live in 1973, every concert since has been somewhat of let down.

Homer Simpson had such a random, funny rant on this exact topic.

I tried to find it but the only clips are in Spanish & then was distracted by something shiny, but it's in the Homerpalooza episode.

Most of their best stuff never sees radio play. They were spectacular live.

I wore out the "Locomotion" 45 single back in the day.
The first song I can remember being into.

Now and then I hear a song I like and look to see who it is, and it is them. I check out a few videos and decide to look into them more, but never do. They never got on my radar in my music buying younger years.

Check out Closer to Home, E Pluribus Funk, or the Grand Funk albums. All solid. Also, the Live Album is a classic
