Is your pet really a service animal? Bill makes it a crime to lie about it

Trying to pass your family pet off as a service animal would be against the law under a bill proposed by Rep. Jimmie Smith, R-Inverness.
“I love that people love their animals and want to take them with them,” said Smith. But when people bring their pet into restaurants and businesses pretending it is a service animal and that animal misbehaves, “it distracts from people’s trust in what a service dog is.”
Although much of the bill reiterates rights and rules included in the Americans with Disabilities Act, in also makes misrepresenting your pet as a service animal a second-degree misdemeanor.
The punishment: 30 hours of community service for an organization that assists the disabled or other group decided by a judge. The community service must be completed within six months.
“It’s so easy to basically defraud the system,” Smith said. “All you have to do is buy a vest or tags and when you’re challenged you say, “talk to my lawyer.””

This legislation is dumb. One, for the fact that people aren't even required to provide proof that it is a service animal and, two, this law will never be prosecuted. More bullshite feel-good legislation clogging up the books.

How about when people who are actually allergic to them and are forced to ride on the same plane as Fido?

It seems like more and more people have these dogs and are bringing them everywhere. I always think they are faking. That's because there are so many lying /cheating fricks in the world

Once one of these impostor dogs bites someone it will be a big issue.

Worthless. No one will ever be prosecuted because people are afraid of upsetting the disabilities community. What they need to do is make it impossible for pets to become service animals. They need to be specially trained animals, which cost money. That will cut down on the number of BS claims.

There's a guy in my class that gets to bring in his whiny siberian husky puppy because he can't sleep or whatever. Oh I have PTSD and stuff!!!

Idea! Make a Koozie into a Service Animal Vest, then you can take your beer anywhere because it's your "Service Beer".

Just like one day Uber will get smacked when some Uber driver rapes or assaults a passenger, or has a huge wreck with minimal insurance.

My dorm roommate the first year of college had a service dog for 'anxiety'.

What they really need to do is crack down on the misuse of Handicap parking passes. Nothing pisses me off more than when an obviously non-handcap person pulls up in a spot and walks into the store.

It shouldn't be complicated imo. They should just be able to provide proof or gtfo. That simple.
Now that that's figured out, what's next on the agenda for mouth breathers?
I think a lot more fatties would think twice about using the handicap scooters at grocery stores if they had to present documentation from their doctors proving they are obese and it is bad for their cankles to actually walk.

The only proof required is a note from a doctor. It's about as hard to get as marijuana in California.

The use of service dogs for anxiety is the real problem. Just get a pot prescription.

They have to have a certain level of insurance and Uber supplies more on top of that.
Cab drivers rape and assault folks all the time. Just google it.
If this was a troll, I bit because I haven't had my coffee yet.

You wouldn't need laws like this if people didn't treat dogs like humans, and think the rest of the world views them the same.
