Artichoke balls are a NOLA/Italian thing. You find 'em in Tangi area Italian community & all over NOLA (among Italians & non Italians). There is plenty of overlap between the oyster patty (a pastry boat/barquette/vol au vent shell w/oyster filling) and the artichoke ball; they seem to travel in the same circles.

I continued with my gluttonous ways last night. I attended the Lafitte's Christmas party. It was upstairs at My Bar and Maision. I'd recommend anyone who wants to throw a party downtown to check this space out. It was recently renovated a year ago and the balcony is huge.

Thanks for the idea. I am trying to setup a cocktail hour type deal for a bachelor party for 25 ppl and just contacted the place. Any other ideas or places to look into for this type of party?

I used to be in a marching club that would have an annual "parade" in the FQ before Mardi Gras. It was a glorified pub crawl with a grand finale of strippers in a suite at the Royal Sonesta.

We would eat lunch at the Rib Room and contact several bars a couple weeks in advance. They would all put something together for us.

I think the Hermes Bar may be a good option.

Nice. Hopefully the Maison place works out but this is a pretty solid plan as well. We have too many ppl to do a nice dinner so I'm looking for different routes.

To be fair, might just be his family

I introduced Jones to pancakes, Chicken Fried Steak, waffles, corn dogs, coffee, hot chocolate, etc.

He knew what they all were, but had never tried them. Still hasn't tried coffee or corn dogs. I'm working on it.

I love artichokes. I want to make this artichoke ball.

Could you please put up a little audio clip of yourself? I want to know if I should be reading all of this with a New Orleans accent in mind.

I hated them as a kid. Always freaked out by them. Now I love them.

I'm from St. Bernard and I'm pretty sure we've had them, literally, at every gathering ever. Weddings, funerals, birthdays, holidays, pool parties, etc.

You can think the old Italians for this, btw.

I'm pretty sure it's a New Orleans thing, because I didn't hear of them until his threads, either.

ETA: I see this has been established already.
