If anybody could make me turn Catholic, this guy might

quote:

Pope Francis suggested recently that even animals have a place in heaven, while trying to soothe a young boy during a public appearance at the Vatican's St. Peter's Square.

"Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures," he told the boy, whose dog died recently.

“One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ,” said the leader of the Catholic Church, according to Italian news sources.

The Pope made the comments at a weekly general audience at the Vatican.

I believe this as well. The same God who created me created my dogs. They weren't created by a lesser god.

I'm not too sure about this one.

But, I do like his stand on Islam.

I really needed to read this. We had to put our 10 year old German Shepherd to sleep yesterday evening.

I almost left the Catholic Church because of Pope Francis and his promotion of communism. I still struggle with it, but I decided the Church is bigger than one man. I will outlive him and hopefully the next Pope will be more like Pope Benedict VI.

Baby, do you understand me now
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But don't you know that no one alive
Can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood.

He's certainly inept on economic issues but I don't think he's a full-blown commie... Yet.

He is the representative of Jesus on earth - The Holy See. We believe he can invoke Papal Infallibility, in which whatever belief or declaration he is making under papal infallibility is as good as what is in the Bible. To my knowledge, this has only been invoked twice - one of which was to say Mary was also free of sin.

Otherwise, whatever the Pope says can be seen as guidance but is not on the same level as the Bible. With this Pope, I take very little of what he says as guidance.

The closest you may get to on this subject is in the Book of Revelation when John speaks of seeing the army of heaven riding on white horses. The quote could allude to animals being present in heaven.

Well theoretically, even though animals don't have souls, God could snap his fingers and reincarnate our pets if that makes us happy in Heaven. And Heaven is supposed to be a joyous place. Ipso facto, your pets go to Heaven.

If Eric Burdon makes it to heaven we may all be assured of getting there.

The beliefs of the CC are rooted in the Bible and in Church tradition.

Technically, if you believe the Bible is the sole source of Christian belief, then the disciples sure had to "make shite up" in the years following the death and resurrection of Jesus. There was no Bible.

That's another thing. The New Testament is basically all letters to various churches. You aren't going to write a letter to the church spelling out the basics of the belief system; you're going to write a letter about the more complicated aspects of some part of the belief system, or because some part of the belief system is being followed incorrectly.

That's why confession, transubstantiation and a ton of other basic Catholic beliefs aren't in the Bible. They didn't need to be, because they were all being followed already and everyone knew about them.

so stupid. how can any sane person believe in heaven? it's less realistic than Jack and the Beanstalk.

Do you realize how many animals would be in heaven? Like 10 trillion? Ridiculous.
