I don't know most of you guys but have been viewing this site for a year now and just made an account recently. I have been going through a tough year. I have been battling drug addiction (successfully.) I went into treatment this past April, shocked my family members but needed to face it. I have been doing great, I was able to finally humble myself and see life the way I should be viewing it. Since then I lost a family member in June. Less than 3 months later I was with my Grandpa through his final moments. I am a younger guy (23) with a bright future ahead of me. Going through these events put my view of life into a larger perspective than myself. I was easily able to handle both situations. I had a final exam this morning and then received a call from my dad to call him ASAP. I knew it wasn't good and braced myself for the call. As the week wasn't stressful enough with school and a few other problems; I was told that my white lab of 12 years old wasn't doing too well. I thought to myself, "really." as if this year couldn't be any worse. Poor boy had cancer of the spleen, it was getting swollen and pushing on his intestines. Immediately I met my dad at Phil Waguespack's place on Siegen ln. Surgery was no option for a 12 year old lab and it was time for me to say my goodbyes. Anyways guys, I realized how important it is to cherish every moment. I never thought I would get so torn up over a dog, but he was literally my best friend. Always there for me through thick and thin. Hurts just as bad as losing a close member of the family. I apologize for going on and I know 2015 will bring a better year; just a reminder cherish those moments with family, friends, and pets. They wont last forever. Although it might seem hard to find the silver lining sometimes, it's there. Some quote I read a while back, "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."

You can only hope that you will be as good of a person as your dog was.

Sorry for your losses and the rough year. You did the right thing by letting him go and not allowing him to suffer anymore.

You know what's great about pets? They never judge you and are always there when you need them. (Ok, my a-hole cats sometimes look judgmental when I don't refill their bowls right away, but you get what I mean.)

Hang in there and things are bound to get better.

The only bad thing about owning pets is that they don't live forever...

Stay strong man, it's gonna be tough

Congratulations and best wishes in continuing to fight the good fight against addiction. All you have to do is stay clean today.

Condolences on the loss of your pup and on the other losses you have suffered. Hang in there and remember the good times you had with them.

As I am sure you know, being sober/clean does not make everything else all peaches and cream. All it means is that you won't be drunk/high. Loved ones die, financial problems still exist, people will hurt or disappoint you, etc. But I assure you that you will handle all of these things far better sober/clean than you would drunk/using.

My very best to you.

Use all of those experiences to create a better life for yourself. I know two guys in their 20's who lost their lives within the last month to drug addiction. Congratulations on beating it and continue to fight for yourself. Sorry for the loss of your dog. Stay positive and lean on loved ones around you when you need it. Enjoy your new perspective on life and carry it on for the rest of your days.

Wow, so sorry to hear. It's never easy to let loved ones go, including beloved pets. Hang in there, and remember the good times you had. I can tell you from my experience time is the best thing to heal these kinds of wounds. Hang in there!
